Biendris out indefinitely!

Andris out indefinitely with appendicitis; MP still a Warrior

From Janny Hu in Oakland.

Some bad news from practice today:

As the trade deadline passed at noon, the biggest story for the Warriors wasn't that Mickael Pietrus was still at practice.

It's that Andris Biedrins was not.

The Warriors' starting center is out indefinitely with appendicitis that began flaring up last night. Biedrins is scheduled to have his appendix removed today and will likely out for at least several weeks as he recovers from surgery.

Warriors coach Don Nelson said Biedrins wasn't feeling well during Wednesday's win over the Celtics, though Biedrins still toughed out one of his best games of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds. He got progressively worse overnight before the Warriors' sent him to the doctor Thursday morning.
"

We had so much flu going on that we didn't know it wasnâ,,,t just the flu," Nelson said. "But as he got home, it looked more and more like it could be something serious."

"He had such a tremendous, game, you never expected it, but that's the type of guy he is," Baron Davis added. "You just wish him a speedy recovery."

Biedrins' absence will mark the first time since Stephen Jackson's opening seven-game suspension that the Warriors will have to make do without a key player for an extended period.

It also comes at the Warriors' thinnest position, with the 6-11 Latvian serving as their only true center. Nelson said Chris Webber and Austin Croshere will play more minutes at the 5, while his younger players like Patrick O'Bryant and Brandan Wright could also see more time.

Sucks that Biedrins is out, especially after his performance last night. I wish Andris a speedy recovery. Nellie will be forced to play POB, Kosta, and Wrightmore now... then again it is Nellie we're talking about. He'll probably put Harrington at the 5, S-Jax at the 4, and Pietrus more playing time at the3.

Lets just hope that the Rockets suffer from losing Wells, if not, Warriors will not make the playoffs.

Warriors need to take care of business. We have a lot of winnable games coming up. I know its very unlikely to win them all, but we need to go atleast 9-4 to have a realistic shot at the playoffs.

we can we win 11 of those 13 games

i only see struggles with PHO and ORL

CWebb will step it up and avg 20 and 9 during that stretch!

I'm trying to be realistic. Remember, we did lose to the Timberwolves, Bulls and Pacers

Dang we need Andris out there. Nellie may be forced to use Wright a little more though. His rebounding and tip-ins will be missed, but I think we can managewithout him. And in that schedule ahead, yea the Suns and Magic are the only games that I don't expect us to win...but of course we will likely slip upagainst a lesser team 1-2 times. So yeah 9-4 would seem realistic; I just hope we at least can have a record around that

heard the news about biendris over the radio

. Hope he recovers quickly though. As for the up coming games, 10-3 would be very nice.

i wonder if don nelson is going to use POB or wright now that we need another big. i'm really hoping wright gets some minutes, and i think i'd rathersee him out there instead of barnes at pf.

Damn that sucks about Andris.

but he's the one guy on their team that can get in someone's jock and get a stop, without the kind of grabbing and swiping defense that they usually play. The guy can flat out get stops.

I would like to know how many NBA players average more fouls per minute than Pietrus. I bet we can count that number on our fingers.

Luckily its an "easy" stretch for us.
Yeah that's what i was thinking. But damn that's a big blow to lose Andris this late in the season. Hopefully Wright can continue toshow what he got.

I'm pretty glad we didnt' make any "Crazy" moves JUST to be apart of this whole circus.

co-sign on both ends. Beans will be missed no doubt. Hopefully this gets 'Buike and Wright more playing time. But Pietrus wasn't entirely bad lastnight, so if he stays consistent like that I don't have a problem with that. I am just praying that Barnes doesn't get hella playing time. I'd muchrather see POB over Barnes all day any day. Too bad we didn't make a trade with MP to get a replacement for Beans in the meantime.
Our (healthy) line-up now is weird...Harrington, IMO has always been a natural 3, but Nelson insists on sticking him at the 4 and occasionally 5--which hardly ever works out well. Then as Webber subs out, probably Pietrus will come in as the 3, sliding Jackson and Harrington down to 4 and 5. But as ofnow, Barnes (to my disgust) will probably come in as the sub when Webber checks out.

nothing is an easy stretch for the dubs, they always play down to their competition

hopefully no andris means more of pob and wright, and not more of webber and croshere.

maybe for wright, but no chance for pob. nellie hates him with a passion

and whats wrong with webber? He's been putting in work lately.

I counted 11 days (that's how long Grant Hill was out with appendicitis) starting tomorrow and Biedrins should be back Wednesday, March 5th vs Charlotte.Encouraging news is that we play only one +.500 team in Portland. Biedrins will have a couple games before Orlando to get his timing back. Considering that,it's pretty good timing. Wright and O'Bryant should get more playing time, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I think Nellie will be creative. They may have to play very small, or maybe he'll use the chance to give Wright some playing time. Sort of a tryout forpossible PT in the future. They need to figure out if some of these guys can play because in the second half, injuries are going to be more plentiful.

I think Nellie HAS to play Wright/POB in this time....if we make the playoffs, we can't afford to have only a 7 man rotation...that was also part of thereason we fizzled out against Utah other than the fact they own us
I'm not comparing Wright to Tayshaun Prince by any means (different situation, different team, i get it i get it), but I recall in Prince's rookie yearhe made an impact in the playoffs and became a starter after that....maybe...maybe?
