They saved the game, and the studio

Without Xbox, there would be no Titanfall, no Apex, and no Jedi Survivor

World would be a better place if they had tried to buy them sooner

^ this is gonna be a big. Making huge waves I’ve seen multiple TikTok’s about this already.

Wonder how they’ll handle it.

Very curious to see how EA/Respawn handle this one

$1M on the line aint no cheap change fir this tourney

This hacker “Destroyer2009” been running crazy in ranked lobbies for about a few months now and now decided to mess with the ALGS scene

At one point he was gifting Hal/Mande Apex packs they both had over 2.5k packs to open

I can’t imagine man.

Being a pro player playing for a $1mil LAN and you just randomly get wall hacks

Dudes whole career flashed before his eyes

Facts bro dude Genburten threw his hands up like he was getting booked lolol

Imagine if the chat in game never mentioned who they were getting hacked by

Maaaaaan what a headache that would of been

Those people getting hacked on Apex are very lucky that the hacker or hackers don't seem to be doing much else. They were able to install and run cheat software on these players' systems, so it's pretty safe to say they're using an RCE (remote code execution) exploit.
In theory, those using the exploit could install and run much worse. RATs (remote administration tool), ransomware, ...
They could also quickly gather all your data.

Ya it dont seem like the hackers intentions are malicious although he is messing with pro players money (they can always reschedule the tourney)

Just gotta hope it dont get into the hands of the wrong ppl who do have bad intentions

I'd be surprised if this remains relatively non-malicious.
If this is an exploit contained by just a handful of people, they could make a lot of money selling access to it due to the potential for extortion through ransomware and data theft.

For now it's clearly being used as an ego trip, hence why the hacker identified himself. Speaking from personal experience with people who are in jail on dozens of hacking charges, these are the biggest self-snitchers you'll ever meet.

I think I saw the cheap anti cheat company they use came out and pointed the finger at Apex / EA, saying they don’t see any evidence of an RCE exploit.

More specifically, Easy Anti-Cheat said "[they] are confident" the problem isn't on their end. That'd be really bad because EAC is used for a lot of games.

Halo Infinite just announced they’re implementing EAC as well

And the network overhaul is coming this week it seems

Really unfortunate what is happening with Apex...

glad to see they communicating at least

shout out to PirateSoftware - dude basically didnt have to do nothing but he brought some great awareness to this issue

i could be mistaken but didnt the reason TF died out was because of cheaters/hackers ?

so wild man

Destroyer2009 declined to provide details of how he allegedly pulled off hacking the two players midgame or which specific vulnerabilities he exploited.

“I really don’t want to go into the details until everything is fully patched and everything goes back to normal,” the hacker said. The only thing Destroyer2009 said regarding the technique he used was that the vulnerability “has nothing to do with the server and I’ve never touched anything outside of the Apex process,” and that he did not hack the two players’ computers directly.

The hacks “never went outside of the game,” he said.

Destroyer2009 said he did not report the vulnerability to Respawn, the video game developer that makes Apex Legends, because neither the company nor the game’s publisher, Electronic Arts, offer a bug bounty program that financially rewards hackers and researchers for privately reporting security flaws.

“They know how to patch it without anyone reporting it to them,” he said.

Talking about the hacks he did during the tournament, Destroyer2009 said that he “went viral, but not many people would have used an exploit like that in an absolutely innocent way for players.”

“Just imagine if it wasn’t a joke and we didn’t put any memes in the cheat, I’m pretty sure you can ruin someone’s career if they had a cheat pop up on a tournament,” said Destroyer2009, defending his actions in an attempt to show that he never had malicious intentions.

I’ve been off of Apex since getting to Korea but it’s wild to see the game in this state. Season 20 was supposed to take it back to peak Apex.
