I liked the first Rounders, but not enough to want a sequel. Happy for those movie/poker enthusiast who have been clamoring for it though.

I feel the same way. I feel like the first one was over the top with the poker jargon. I couldn't understand what anyone was talking about half the time. But that's probably one of the reasons poker enthusiasts liked it so much. I'm don't feel particularly motivated to see the sequel right now (my opinion could change if it gets amazing reviews), but I'm glad for those on there who do.

RIP to Peter O'toole. Lost one of the great ones today.

Used to watch his films when I'd stay at my grandma's house..She loved him and even as a little kid I thought he was cool..Can't believe the only Oscar he has in an honorary one..Such a shame..

Watched The Truman Show last night for the first time.

"And in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!" Perfect line to walk out of the dome to. That was B-E-A-UUUUUUUUTIFUL, Jim.

The opening sequence/credits to the ACTUAL Truman Show inside of the movie Mind blown. Just can't imagine that. The waitress at the diner being so entrenched in the path of his love life: "He has to be with Merrill".

Glad I watched this in 2013 for the first time. I could genuinely see someone trying to pitch this to a creative meeting, despite the probability of them being fired for insanity. "Well, is it really cruel and disgusting if he grows up in it from Day 1 and knows nothing else? How can we view him as someone who should live in our world if he has only inhabited his?"

Ed Harris was perfect as the creator. His speech at the end was maybe the best delivery of the entire film... unnnnntil he was one-upped a few seconds later with Truman's F-You send off.

Merrill panicking and turning to the camera and endorsing a product, and Truman's horror. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!" Imagine being in that scenario, trying to grasp the absolute bender your mind is forced to embark on.

The small talk scene where Truman is going to work near the beginning is brilliant as well.

Loved it (on Netflix, FYI).

Well said, sir. One can say that it is also an allegory for life in general. Script is very smart and written by one of my favorite screenwriters (at least back in the late 90's) Andrew Niccol. One of Carrey's best performances. Such a great all around story. One of my Top 10 Favorite Films of All-Time.

watched Inside Llewyn Davis last night. Oscar Isaac is fantastic, I hope he gets an Oscar nomination but I'm not holding my breath. I usually don't like the Coen's and their films but this one was solid. The music is so great, and is a real backbone to the film. Isaac and Mulligan's chemistry is superb, even thought Mulligan and Timberlake are not in the film enough. The Coen's capture the 1961 folk scene in the village perfectly, it's such beautiful cinematography.

Well made film with symbolizism. It lags in the middle when John Goodman and Garrett Hedlund are introduced but overall it's solid. I'm going to watch it again before I write my review, thank goodness for screeners.

I'm surprised you don't like the Coen Brothers work. I respect the wide array of work they've done from off beat comedies, westerns, etc. A lot of their work isn't re-watchable for me except O Brother, Where Art Thou?

I won't catch it in the theater but I'm looking forward to watching Llewyn Davis. I'm hoping my in-law might come through with a screener (for this & a couple of other movies I won't get to see in the theaters).

I'm a bit surprised by that as well. The Coens' movies surely aren't for everyone, but most people who I know that are cinema enthusiasts like them. I don't like all of their movies equally and, like PSK, don't find them all re-watchable. But I usually watch parts of Big Lebowski whenever it comes on cable and I have watched Fargo more than once.

And, yes, happy holidays to all you NT movie thread regulars.

I certainly understand that, it's kinda one of those critic stigmas that they "all" love the artsy Coen bros work. IDK their films just never resonatated with me
