Osage County was a beautiful train wreck. Surprised by the harsh critical reception, and I already know that plenty of viewers won't like it because it's one of those movies where "nothing happens," but I did.
The knocks on "overacting" and it not steadily transitioning from stage to screen were both unwarranted to me. The term, "overacting," makes it seem like critics don't believe this to be a plausible family dynamic, or that people can't really be that manic, etc. For me, that's ridiculous and irresponsible/insensitive to assume, regardless, but I was also reminded of my own southern family back when everyone was alive and all spent time together. They certainly weren't just a production.
