Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Just finished Gladiator.

Last time I saw it was when it came out,

I was way too young to care or understand to significance of the dialogue or performances.

Don't want to overreact but it may be one of my favorite movies of all time.

I was that blown away by all of it.
The cinematography, the dialogue, the acting, the visuals.

Amazing movie.
Maximus :eek :hat
Just simply EPIC in every way. :hat :hat

Sidenote; Joaquin Phoenix was outstanding. (Obviously Crowe's was too, thus his Oscar). I know he was nominated but how did he not win? I can't see anyone else's performance would be better for a supporting actor.

I need to watch more of Joaquin's films. After seeing Her and seeing this again this dude is clearly an elite actor.

Joaquin Phoenix is my favorite actor.
You should watch The Master just to marvel at his abilities. The scene where he & Phillip Seymour Hoffman have their first "session" is the most impressive I've ever seen
Seeing him play Freddy, after u just saw him play Commudus would be :eek

And then get ready for him as the lead in Inherent Vice :hat (directed by Paul Thomas Anderson)

Will Do. Ripped.
I'll watch that soon thanks for the heads up. :hat

Can't wait for Inherent Vice

Will Farrell killed it in the 00s. Besides the movies mentioned, his lesser pics like Blades of Glory and Semi-Pro make me laugh too.

Also, caught an advanced screening of Muppet's Most Wanted. I liked it (seemingly more than my 8 year old son). The Muppets were the Muppets, the celeb cameos were funny and the songs worked. Pretty much what you'd want from a Muppet flick.

Talladega Nights was great

The revolution was supposed to be a shock to Katniss (and the viewers/readers) so thats why it feels like it comes from out of nowhere. But even then you can get a sense that this was where the story was always gonna head, it was just a shocker that it was being planned all along. I'm sure you'll get your fill of backstory in Mockingjay. Not saying its the best choice but thats just the way the story is meant to be.

Ender's game was dry as hell. I fell asleep for half the movie in theaters and I have no desire to rewatch :lol

For the sake of my interest in the story, I have faith that Mockingjay will be good.

Black Dynamite is undoubtedly one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in my 25 complete years, and that's off of a single viewing.

Strong comedies marinate over time. I know it has even more to offer, but for whatever reason, I've never watched it again.

Gladiator is in my personal top 5. Crowe, Joaquin and Honsou killed it.

I remember the summer of '08 and Pineapple, Tropic and Step Bros came out back to back to back in 3 weeks. I tore a rib muscle.

Yeah...all 3 had classic scenes and quotables, but Pineapple's story got in the way of the funny. And I could live with only seeing a supercut of the RDJ Kirk Lazarus scenes from Tropic, instead of watching the whole thing again.

But Step Brothers....Step Brothers. :lol

I could watch that movie 5 times a week til the day I die. It never gets old for me. And every damn scene...every character...every line of that movie is classic to me. Not a day goes by when there ain't a need to quote Step Bros. I love that movie. I could watch it a billion times, and something new will hit me right every time.

Stay golden, Ponyboy.

...

Oh, and Black Dynamite touched my soul.

"Did we just become best friends?"

American Hustle Blu ray out tomorrow
Wolf of Wall Street Blu out next week.

:hat :hat

Saw 42 over the weekend. Disney'd, but still watchable at least once. Nothing blew me away, but I already knew it wouldn't.

Missed the first 15 minutes of Robocop OG, and wish I missed the last hour and a half as well. That movie sucks. **** was beyond terrible. Only thing I liked was seeing Bogomil on screen again. I won't be seeing that ever again. Probably skip the remake now too. :lol

Can't be made at you for not liking it. If I watched for the first time 25 years after it came out, I might not love it either. At least you gave it a shot. I have a feeling JapanAir is going to be upset though.

I'll say it again, Adam Sandler was great in Reign Over Me.

On one level it's a reflective serious and sad movie but on another it's easily the funniest Adam Sandler has ever been.

Wedding Crashers deserves all Oscars from that year. They were robbed.

Best comedies the last 10 years or so for me are: Wedding Crashers, Superbad, Old School, Tropic Thunder, The Hangover

It's hard to explain what makes Robocop so awesome. It's what I hope the 80s were like. It's like if Tarantino made a sci-fi movie before Reservoir Dogs. It's that revelation from when you just saw it on cable, to when you finally see it uncut on VHS. It's the quotables, the characters, the this is the future except everything's already dusty as hell. It's that Clockwork Orange-ish ultraviolence.

I mean, did you hate Total Recall or Starship Troopers? Cuz Robocop's a classic in the same way those are. Maybe someone convinced you that you were gonna get Blade Runner or T2. Nah, Robocop is a classic in the same way Hobo With a Shotgun is.

That made me wanna see it more than the commercials did. :lol

No one has ever or will ever pick up this combination of films again.
