Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I just finished fruitvale station. It was horrible. 1/5
It was like the movie was made by that stereotypical mother on news stories. Who says things like "my son was *insert postive aspect."
His relationship with his daughter kept me watching, but everything else felt so sugar coated.
Throwing away his weed, not cheating, helping white people, and that dog scene.
They should have just had a montage of him being a good person, then showed the reenacted bart scene.

The cops from the real video seemed horrible. I was mind blown that the cop only got 11 months.
That's ridiculous breh.

Ah man Short Term 12

That shark story was ****** up :{ :|

Amazing performance by Brie Larson. I always liked her as an actress and because she's hot but this is probably the first work where she really stepped it up and wowed me.

Strong screenplay here.

Dude from The Newsroom was cool too. Black kid seemed like something right out of Odd Future.

Sidenote: What kind of car in this day and age that modern doesn't have an alarm? :lol

Well, conveniently enough for me, Bad Boys 2 came on Showtime last night. Entertaining as hell to sure. But SO Michael Bay. So much about it is crazily overdone, but both Martin and Will are great and have great chemistry.

Also, Theresa Randle >>> Gab Union. Come at me, bros .

Nah man, he started snorting that ish and snitched to the boys. He had to go.

Why this dude always playing that 'good kid, bad situation' can we get a good guy Micheal B Jordan meme?

'Wants to go back to school...gets shot by best friend'

22 Jump Street is a must see. If you liked the first one, you'll enjoy this one as well. I loved it.

Just got back from seeing it and I loved it.

I'd say the first one was a better movie.. because they seemed to blend the spoofing of cop movies, the buddy movie, and high school movies, all worked so well without being TOO in your face. Whereas this one they really hammered home the meta-commentary on sequels and franchises and "the department"/film studio. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED all of it. And MrO was right in how majority of people didn't even laugh at a lot of it.. like Offerman's speech which was choke full of meta goodness... and I can't believe I missed that red herring tattoo joke :lol :{

I was DYING when Tatum realized what happened with Cube's daughter.. it just kept going and I would have watched another 5 straight minutes of him freaking out. And I remember thinking in the earlier scene, "That seems a bit weird that Cube would high five Jonah Hill but oh well it's a funny moment" and sure enough it comes back around :rollin And then Cube's meltdown at the dinner.

I'm forgetting so many great moments but some highlights were Jillian (the roommate) constantly being present for their romantic moments and the Mr. and Mrs. Smithing fight :lol
- The twins were great
- Hill trying to take a bullet for Tatum
- The thing he had to overcome this time was jumping and the parkour jokes
- The references to Tatum being the Terminator :lol and how he jumped down the side of the building like Spider-Man
- The meet-cute with the QB :lol
- Going back to Dave Franco and Rob Riggle in prison

I would have been satisfied if this movie was 80% as funny as the first one but it was just as good. A meta-commentary on sequels and franchises while keeping the same charm and sense of humor of the first one. Huge credit goes to Tatum and Hill for their incredible chemistry because it showed how much they like working together. An impressive sequel that managed to give you the things you loved about the first one without it feeling like the exact same thing (which was obviously a major point of the spoof/meta stuff). I'll probably see it again soon :lol

If you haven't seen Edge of Tomorrow yet, do yourself a favor.

The concept is Groundhog's Day x Source Code x Jumanji. Fascinating. Coming from a a Tom Cruise slander artist, he and Emily Blunt were tremendous. Blunt especially, she's grown immensely since The Adjustment Bureau. This whole film, and Tom Cruise the person made me listen to Chris Hardwick's 1HR podcast with him from a couple weeks ago.

I wish I could take a foray into Cruise's mind Being John Malkovich style. There's something about his personality that is so intriguing to me. He's just so strange. There's like something fragmented about him that fascinates me.

Hey, dudes. Really need to catch up in here.

CP, I finally saw Sunshine recently. Immensely enjoyed it.

Aesthetically beautiful. Wonderfully crafted. The twist was pretty unforeseen and haunting. Cillian Murphy was killer, as always. Malcontent Chris Evans was right in being proud of it.

Great call. Danny Boyle rules.

It's really that good? I'm a sci-fi fan and complain a lot about the genre having more duds than great movies. I don't like cruise either unless he's in a mission impossible movie but my brother said he wants to see it so i'll probably watch with him.

Dirk, JPZ, and Kev all in the last few days. :hat

Good to see you guys back in here again.

Glad you liked Sunshine. A friend at work pushed it on me, and I'll be damned I really liked it. I need to rewatch sometime soon to remember it all.

I don't even like him in the MI's, and I guarantee you'll love this movie. It contrasts what you're accustomed to seeing him play, even if it looks like the same thing you've seen him play (you'll understand what I mean when you see it)

It was very much like Triangle, if you were a part of that wave in here three years ago or so.

Saw Edge of Tomorrow.

High Points:
- Surprisingly humorous
- Good chemistry between Blunt and Cruise
- CGI was well used
- Story and script was solid
- Emily Blunt sweaty in chaturanga multiple times

Low Points:
- Fairly predictable
- The reason for the "Groundhog Day" effect is really flimsy
- Third act was weakest part of film, but really, not too much they could have done

In terms of recent sci-fi films, I can't think of anything recent that I liked as much as this one. It was better than films like The Adjustment Bureau and Source Code, and maybe a slight notch below a film like Another Earth.

I definitely recommend it. Saw it in standard format, may go back sometime this week to watch it in IMAX 3D.

I've watched most of Triangle. Never finished it though. Melissa George though [emoji]128526[/emoji].

I did think, however, that the aliens close-up looked absolutely pathetic. Green Lantern-esque. In the style of a video game.

Loved the movie "CHEF"

it's light hearted, good story.

the movie doesn't take many risk, but it was very entertaining.

I had a fun time watching.

I've been gone from this thread for some months. I was feeling pretty "movied out" so I pretty much stopped watching movies for a while (aside from the occasional movie date). The last five or so movies I saw:

-Prisoners
It popped up somewhere and I had remembered you guys speaking highly of it so I peeped. I LOVED it. Good acting. Great characters. I enjoyed the story as well.

-Moon
Idk how many of you guys are into video games stuff on Youtube, but Roosterteeth was talking about the director being some old celebrity's son, and they said the movie was good, so I checked it out. I liked it. I would've liked them to get a little more in depth with the company and their motives though.

-Maleficent
Saw it with my girl and her sisters. It's a solid movie. Easy to watch. I like the fact that companies are sort of making their classic stories more adult oriented. I like the "darker" take on the stories.

-Captain America 2
Again, went with my girl and her family. I thought it was great. Good action movie. Winter Solider was DOPE. I don't know anything about Captain America in terms of the comic books and I never saw the first one so I went in completely blind.

-Citizen Kane
I've been trying to watch it for about a year now, finally got to it. Idk how everyone else feels about the movie, but I thought it was okay. The acting was GREAT. I just don't know how I feel about the story. I think knowing about it's accolades kind of ruined it for me. I was reading somewhere that it was considered the number one ranked movie for like 40 years or something like that. :eek I just felt the story was kinda lackluster. Orsen's acting in the movie was extremely good though. And the movie looks AMAZING. That could just be personal preference though. Black and White films in HD/Blu Ray quality look so great.

I plan on watching Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal next. It has the same director as Prisoners and the story looks intriguing so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Also, idk how this thread is in terms of TV/HBO/Netflix series but I'm watching Boardwalk Empire right now as well. It's a pretty good show. I went through a short period in middle school where I was obsessed with 20s era criminals, so the show has my attention. I'm about to finish up the first season this week. I'm excited to see where it goes.

I've watched most of Triangle. Never finished it though. Melissa George though [emoji]128526[/emoji].
MrO recommended I watch that way back and my first thought what the hell is this straight to dvd type ish. Ended up really enjoying it and yea Melissa George lol. She has like a 30 second part in Dark City :evil but look that up too if you haven't seen it.

^^The director of Moon is David Bowie's son. He also did Source Code which was pretty good, I'd watch if you have a chance, especially since you been watching some Gyllenhaal lately.

illmaticsoulchild illmaticsoulchild If I'm reading this right you think Another Earth was good? and that Edge of Tomorrow was a notch below it but it was better than Source Code and Adjustment Bureau? I confused.

th3kid th3kid Yeah when movies are hyped up in to the masterpiece stratosphere it's hard getting around it when you finally go to watch. Same way I'm feeling about ppl who aint seen Shawshank yet among others. I was lucky to catch Citizen Kane not knowing anything about it and loved it but I do have a love for the older black and white films.

[@]MastaMind033[/@ ]Damn. I didn't know that guy directed Source Code too. I guess in retrospect the camera angles and shooting style are similar. I liked Source Code. I guess I never realized how good of an actor JG is. I'm not really subscribed to any primarily movie based blogs or anything like that, so I really don't know how he ranks for people, but he seems to be relatively underrated.

And yeah Master Zik Master Zik I kinda feel similarly towards the first Godfather. I've only sort of seen it. I've seen about the first 20-30 minutes. The rest of the movie is sort of a blur so I have to rewatch, but from what I remember it was just solid to me. Pacino was great though.

I forgot to mention, I saw Godzilla.
I saw it mainly because of the reviews. The trailers didn't impress me at all. The movie was sort of meh for me. The acting was good, but I thought it was pretty boring. A lot of build up to the fight/action then the action was so short lived and kinda lackluster because of them having to finish up the story of the guy and his dad. I will say this though, if it ends up becoming a series of movies, I'd say that the movie is really good. It seems like the perfect set up movie. It would be just like season 2 of the wire. :lol
