Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Watching the show Tyrant...this might be the move since Fargo went off. This dude Jamal is a straight scumbag...we meet him banging out dudes wife in old dudes living room while her husband and kids were chilling in the hallway. Hussain's son is superlame and I hope he gets kidnapped by terrorists. I hope his daughter stays cool...and his wife...idk about her yet. And his son is gay...welp political unrest is afoot.

I don't understand the Michael bay hate I mean he's not Martin Scorsese but I don't think he really tries to be .
he just makes fun popcorn action movies.

Speaking strictly for myself (my opinion), I liken his movies for the same reason I don't eat a can of frosting. I need some cake (substance) too.

His movies are a bombastic combination of really bad editing, power ballads, women on objects (although I don't mind this one), too many close ups & camera angle changes, lots of vehicles crashing (crash porn), slow motion to full motion back to slow motion, helicopters & airplanes flying into or out of the sunrise, & explosions.

It's like watching a Victoria's Secret commercial with violence & pyrotechnics.

I see more camera shake in his movies than I do in actual war footage...

Spot on. A lot of what he does is just so unnecessary. Like when I was watching Bad Boys II the other day I noticed one shot where the camera does a 360 over Will Smith's head, then a close up. Just looked cheesy and made me a little dizzy. Bay is just a master in excess -- and not in a good way.

How about the scene in Bad Boys where Bay had that Hummer destroy hundreds of poor people's homes :smh:

I thought the 360 in the Ferrari with Will firing his automatic machine gun indiscriminately into a crowd of people to then shout "Now show em your badge", then back the Ferrari safely out of a single gunshots way, was a tad unnecessary, but maybe that's just me.

Dozens of cars in traffic half a block down were catchin random gunfire cuz one cop in his Ferrari was havin a bad day.

Like Being John Malcovich, we need a movie about Michael Bay movies, and what happens in the backgrounds of his ideas.

That scene, along with throwing cars off the back of a big rig, were entirely necessary. Matter of fact, every over-the-top scene in Bad Boys 2 was necessary.

NT gimme a netflix movie to watch tonight.

Just left from seeing The Rover.
It was beautifully shot. I love movies where they are so quiet that they're loud. I hope that makes sense.
And the shots in the Australian outback were great.

Edward Cullin gave a great performance for his character, he like totally totally owned it. Hella believable.
It's a good flick. If you have some time and just wanna see something different, with only two characters for basically the entire film. Definitely check it out

I think these are still on Netflix; Short Term 12 (with Brie Larson), Mud (Matthew McConaughey), Star Trek Into Darkness, Don Jon (JGV & Scar Jo), Blue is the Warmest Color (great foreign movie), Side Effects (solid Steven Soderbergh flick), Quill (great Japanese flick), & The Hunt (great foreign movie with Mads Mikkelsen).

Netflix will be losing a lot of great titles as of July 1st

Rocky II (I assume the whole series)
Raging Bull
Chinatown
Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol
Dr. Strangelove
Taxi Driver
Close Encounters
The Terminator

Nope, but those movies have been on and off the past couple years. They'll pop back up in a few months I'm sure

Short Term 12 was one of my favorite movies of last year.

MUD, I enjoyed as a coming of age film for the kids. Didn't really care for McConaughey.

STID, I still havene't seen that. Good call.

DON JON, I hate the accent, couldn't finish it.

BISTWC is awesome.

Havent seen SIDE EFFECTS, QUILL, or THE HUNT.

I'll peep

Bar scene from Taxi Driver.
For our first directing class (Directing the actors). We had to take a script of a film we've never viewed and direct the scene we felt was the changing point in the story.
I chose to do the bar/diner scene from Taxi Driver.

Did y'all use shooting scripts or og screenplays? I'm trying to find either but online all I find are transcripts. I want to see the actual pen of the writer.

You know where to find some online? All the sites have transcripts, which are cool but not what I want.

I need some clarity on an acting career that many sort of dismiss, and probably rightfully so, but yet, his body of work is pretty damn impressive, and I’m not sure what to make of it.

Keanu Reeves

Iconic roles in Bill and Ted’s, The Matrix, Speed, Point Break

Mostly action stuff, but he also has some roles like

River’s Edge
My Own Private Idaho
Dracula
Much Ado About Nothing
Chain Reaction
The Devil’s Advocate
The Watcher
Hard Ball
Something’s Gotta Give
Constantine
Street Kings
47 Ronin

All various roles. Different. Not the Will Smith playbook, Keanu does take chances. He does movies that aren’t “him”

He did sequels for The Matrix, but I kinda think he was forced into it, and had no choice. That movie demanded it.

But he wisely backed out of Speed 2. And Bill and Ted’s is his only other sequel, whereas Will has tried to get several of his movies franchised.

We saw Matthew come out of nowhere to win Oscar, and probably Emmy in the same damn year. Another guy with a decent resume, who was never taken seriously.

I don’t know if Keanu has that depth, but he’s not a Hollywood guy like a Cruise or Smith, and he’s not the brilliance of acting like a DDL or Bale. Clooney gets by as a pretty boy, yet he’s had Oscar type buzz before, Keanu hasn’t come close that I can think of.

So what is it that keep Keanu working for 30+ years, doing different projects, not rattling any cages, but not garnering a lot of praise either?

He’s considered a below average actor, but would he really have this resume, without all the Hollywood schmoozing most have to go thru to get roles?

He’s worked with all kinds, Morgan Freeman, Pacino, Busey, Fishburne, Sandra, Spader, Charlize, Oldman, River Phoenix, Jack, Hackman……I mean, he has a unique career when you look at it.

See, he seems like a down to earth dude all the way around.

Gave his salary to the crew of the Matrix? :wow: :pimp:

Playing street hockey for years and years.

I forgot about his on stage work, again, he just does so many different things, but never really gets any credit for those efforts.

My high school english teacher said Keanu has a good, kind of generic look that works well in movies. We were watching The Matrix in class when she said it.

If Point Break or Speed is on tv i'll stop to watch it.
