With a director in Ridley Scott, screenplay by Cormac McCarthy, & the cast that it had... How in the sam hell was that movie so bad?!?!?!

Went with schindler's list.. Powerful movie.. Kept meaning to watch it but never got around to it.. I wouldn't say it's one of those movies that's tough to watch like say ragging bull or like requiem for a dream

Already watched As Good As It Gets, finishing up Taxi Driver. I'll probably give Raging Bull another watch since it's been a few years.. and if there's time I'll watch Chinatown, one of the greatest screenplays of all time.
And Dr. Strangelove.. a classic.

That Penny Dreadful finale was something else though 
Had some humor, the pacing wasn't good enough for it to be mysterious. Had some character stuff but hey it really is up to you if you want to build something up in your mind 1st ep in

Caught Enemy and Pompeii last night. Pompeii was way better than I thought it would be. They had terrible marketing and no star power, you put anyone else in that role and I gurantee it would have been box office gold; Gold Jerry, gold. Enemy...I still don't get it *Ye shrugs*

Alright...I get it...I think. I didn't watch the entire video, it was damn near a third the length of the movie... but I think I get it. Question,
why did his GF freak out at the sign of his ring tan? Did she just not notice it?
He was driving the car that crashed, unless that was just some random car or her by herself, so how does he walk away unscathed?
I think this movie is probably better as a book, those subtle themes (missing the call at the end, receiving a voicemail at the beginning) would be hard to pick up during the course of a movie, they are to fast, but a book could give it the significance it deserves.

Obvious one...Drive. I really liked Superbad's too. It was funky.
And Any Given Sunday & O Brother, Where Art Thou were my jams back in the day.

Anchorman 2 makes me forget what I ever liked about Anchorman 1. It feels like a decent Adam Sandler movie, and loses everything that made the first one special. It's like they had 10 times the budget they needed to make a good comedy and it suffocated the whole thing. Actually reminds me of Semi-Pro, where the movie was polished and clean, but so antiseptic and relaxed that you could barely even tell when a joke was happening half the time. It's like an SNL skit that's been going on too long and lost anything remotely funny about it.
It felt like they either took all the wrong things away from why they thought Anchorman was a hit, or forgot to watch Anchorman before they made the sequel. Or worse...like they convinced themselves that Will Ferrell and Ron Burgundy were the star of the movie. No. God no. The star of the movie is the style and the tone and the setup. It puts everyone right over the plate and makes it easy for every joke to take off. Hell...even Austin Powers figured that out for their sequels.
I mean...Anchorman 2 had every joke it needed to be absolute comedy. But they completely dropped the style and tone of the original, and damn near every scene felt off and distant and cold. They shot the first one like a jokey Boogie Nights. They shot the 2nd one like a Paddy Chayefsky movie. It's like they took it all way too seriously.
The only one who breaks through is Brick, cuz Steve Carrell is that dude when he's not working with awful material. He saved the movie for me, but saved what?

I've decided to never, ever, ever watch Anchorman 2 because I like the first one so much. Can't risk having it tarnished in any way. I'm going to just pretend the sequel never happened.
But for the record, I actually like Semi-Pro. Took a couple viewings, but it grew on me. Not so much for Farrell, but the supporting guys. Will Arnett in particular. Rob Cordry is pretty funny in that too -- and I generally don't like him in most things.

If Apatow keeps up the cronyism with his daughters (I think there his or nieces w/e) they're going to be stars. They were real standouts in a film where Rudd was shining and Mann was really good. The younger one was adorable and funny, she could probably helm her own kiddie movie if done the right way and the teenager can actually act. Put her in all of Woodley's recent movies and they improve sevenfold. Apatow going for a take on LOST where a fan isn't hugely disappointed was also funny in it's own way, gave me a bit of nostalgia.

Nowadays when I hear his name and I'm forced to give him thought I just cringe and am horrified cuz I think of that atrocity that's Transformers Dark of the Moon (the only Transformers movie I watched from beginning to end) and damn :x It just wouldn't end. Think that left a few movie scars on my psyche. Mind numbingly bad.
I'd rather watch the G.I. Joe movies over and over. Crazy Hollywood is aiming to ruin all of the childhood cartoons and tv shows. Only a few pan out. I'm definitely not watching AOE cuz while I didn't like the main Transformers cartoons I loved Beast Wars.

Wonder if Caliban's new bride will run into Ethan next season? Should be interesting.

To me the real surprise from him was son spending weeks (I'm guessing) taking turns caring for and standing guard of a possessed Vanessa only to turn in to a damn exorcist int he 25th hour. That whole last scene just had me like

No doubt. I remember specifically saying that about another movie I forget. Even getting in to this I saw it at 120 min and was like damn 120 min of what?
I feel he makes his movies this long just so he can have his own endings which aren't typical. This Is 40 ended in such non-conclusory way where when you reflect on what you watched it was more like you caught 3 40 min eps of a tv series. The flow is at his pace and he doesn't hit the natural story beats he use to or most of his contemporaries do. It's usually set up/establishing premise, climax/turning point where the relationship breaks apart (in most movies this is where the couple breaks up before they reconcile), then conclusion. Apatow put off the turning point in this movie until there was like 15 min left in the movie
It's like he's basically telling ppl this is how it is for the real average family. There aren't happy endings, some times just endings. While the family bonds a bit and makes up towards the ends it's basically them on the road to healing instead of all of their problems having solutions.Rudd's character probably and in real life most likely sells his recording label or closes shop cuz he's bankrupt, they sell their nice house and move in to a much smaller one and he gets some job. Tacking on some hope he signs some actual good talent is all Apatow provided not to make it a complete bad ending.
Regardless, movie brought the lulz. The cameo type scenes by Melissa Mcarthy, Jason Segel, etc. were all good and funny. Leslie Mann was really sexy and believable as a real mom to an extent and like I said the kids stole the show.
