And as previously mentioned, I saw Whiplash yesterday morning as well at the Press and Industry screening at the 52nd New York FIlm Festival.
WOW.
Blown away by every sense of the word.
It exceeded my ridiculously high expectations and then some. I left questioning if it was my favorite film of the year and it just might be, knocking Boyhood off the #1 pedestal.
Imagine Full Metal Jacket's Gunnery Sergent Hartman going to Julliard to push and try to break the next Buddy Rich.
J.K. Simmons is terrifying, he's so damn good it's shocking. He manipulates the screen, he forces you to hate him because he demands perfection. It's one of the best performances of the year and if the Oscars don't nominate him for best supporting I'll be livid.
Miles Teller is really the future of Hollywood. This is the kid we'll be talking about for the next 30 years. He really knows how to act without over doing it. He plays the "normal" guy roles so well, the way he speaks is real - and the skillful drumming is ridiculous.
There is a drum solo at the end of the film that moved critics to tears. It's an unbelievable film that I implore you all to go see in a few weeks.
