Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Matrix 1 is timeless to me. a Top sci-fi of all time list. Everything fits well. Us vs. Them, the chosen hero in a new world (still follows the hero's journey motif in cinema). We are with the Hero and its not just about kicking butt as since Neo may be the One he is learning about the world just as much as we are. Sci-Fi is the movie genre that is the most philosophical and this is no exception because the hair raising question is the entire film... (what is real, is this real life?). It was released at a time of internet infancy where as we didn't know what to expect with this new technology that makes information gathering limitless and scare people by simply going to AOL and typing out lyrics to the song that's stuck in your head but forgot the name to.

They created a new enemy for a new generation (those sentinels or Agent Smith or whatever). And its something that we created. The best sci-fi's have always been those that the enemy we created, HAL in 2001 or replicants in Blade Runner. We(humans) deem ourselves intelligence as a source of reasoning for power and want to take down anything above us. The Borg (assimilating AI) in Star Trek Lore and Star Trek:First Contact movie come to mind as well.

It also was a Sci-Fi that changed the cinema game with its special and visual effects and that always leaves a mark on the world.

Matrix 2 drew on those factors for a bit but couldn't carry the movie to positive recognition and #3 was one giant action sequence brought on by #2. Throw those out and keep Matrix 1 and I'm good. 6.9/8

I still remember the feeling of walking out of the theater after first seeing this film. I've honestly never felt that way before. I had a different outlook on life. I started seeing things differently, seeing things from a new perspective.

one of my favorite articles about the films

I totally forgot at like the height of his boxing career Roy Jones Jr in media was a thing and he managed to parlay that fame in to some movie roles. Seeing him in The Matrix Reloaded had me like :eek

Speakin of the Matrix series, it needs to get rebooted. Age well, it did not.
I think the first one still holds up really well.

Especially for ppl who've never heard of the franchise (younger ppl) and don't know there are sequels. Show it as a one and done and it'd probably get more praise.

This is the perfect song response to your post.

I know, I know, I must've forgot :lol Thought the same thing after I posted.

That song was dope :hat
@benfraserlee Incredible way of making my two star review seem like I didn't hate the film
:lol
I was wondering if the image was blocking more stars or not :lol

Colbert's Late Show debuts tonight on CBS.

I'm looking forward to A. seeing him back on TV and B. What kind of show he's going to put out.

Can't wait.

So far so good, too.

He was fine in his monologue, I like him at the desk during a similar bit to the Colbert Report, where he's more comfortable talking about news and politics... just without the "Colbert" character.

And he was always great with guests on the Colbert Report, so I don't doubt he handles the interview part well either.

Yea got a lot more faith in this and in colbert's talent..

No clue why svp went away from what he did well, should have basically taken is radio show and went live with it, so you can have immediate reactions to that day's events

No need for suits.. Cheat off of what Simmons was doing with his grantland stuff.. And have relaxed convos about sports with him and russillo

Sure show some highlights.. Have interviews.. But don't make it a glorified sportscenter

I still feel Matrix 2 was better, but 1 always gets (and deserves) credit for bein OG.

I absolutely loved Seraph, 100 Smiths, Chateu, Twins, Freeway, Merovingian, Architect, and the talk with the Oracle. All of those upped the ante over 1. Even the music was upgraded.

I don't argue too much on it, I love both, but given the choice, I watch Reloaded before I watch 1.

I've put my personal love for Reloaded aside. It's the better action movie. It's what the franchise should've been going forward.

OG has the sci fi trappings that everybody loves though. Everybody played it up well enough that it hit all the right beats.

Black Mass

I don't think I'm going to be able to deal with Depp and that makeup for a whole movie. I'll definitely miss key parts and dialogue because I'm stuck looking at that makeup job. :smh

fun fact: The entire highway scene in Reloaded took the entire length of production to complete start to finish. so many beautifully executed effects in that scene for that time was well deserved with the work they put into it

Reading this thread made me want to watch the Matrix again. I don't think they can reboot it without finding another way in and out of the Matrix since hardline phones are pretty rare nowadays. In 1999 pay phones were pretty common. Good luck finding a pay phone today. What if we are plugged into the Matrix and the absence of pay phones makes it impossible for Neo to come save us 8o

Go back to a galaxy far, far away! Pre-order the soundtrack for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

1000

Part of me wants to be made at how heavily merchandized this thing is already - months before it even comes out. But **** it. Its Star Wars.

Hopefully the soundtrack's titles don't spoil the movie

First Point Break, now Roadhouse? :{

Leave these perfect Patrick Swayze classics alone.

honda's ugly face needs to stop being all over tv and movies. I have a limit on how many times I get the urge to vomit while watching tv.

I'm not as hyped for the next Nolan film as I thought or I guess would be.

:lol @ Road House remake with Rhonda. I aint a huge fan of Swayze movies but they're picking some movies that won't be hits to remake.

Fans choose some ridiculous things to be distracted by sometimes. This is worse than ppl having problems with accents that aren't that bad.

Hollywood cant let the Swayze god rest in peace..

and don't forget the  red dawn remake with thor

Dirty Dancing never was technically "re-made" right? They just had a few "sequels" with totally different characters and settings, correct?
