Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Suburbicon is tough.. From the previews i thought Matt Damons character was going to avenge his family or something. 4.8/8

Saw Holmes & Watson last week (company event). It was SO TRASH. 2/8 is generous. Don't believe me? Peep the critic and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes. If you're expecting Step Brothers or even Talladega Nights you are in for a very very rude awakening.

It's a period piece and they're playing public domain famous fictional characters turned in to a comedy.

I knew it wasn't gonna be good.

Saw Vice last night, 3/8 and that’s probably being a lil too generous. Very disappointed in McKay, I was expecting a much better film after The Big Short.

I was wondering why the movie wasn't getting much promo. With them not promoting the duo much I kind of figured it would be a dud. Probably won't even watch it on stream.

All the promo I see on tv is then heavily leaning on the fact Ferrel and Reilly are a comedy duo you know from Stepbrothers, Talledega Nights, etc. and then some comedy bits from the actual movie.

I'm a Ferrell stan and even I know this looks real bad.

was really looking forward to seeing it. I still will, but this isn't first meh review I've seen :frown: .

Wait ppl think BlacKKKlansman really happened as shown in the movie? :lol

Thought it was clear it was made up in large parts.

Still a good movie. Great bounce back flick for Spike.

If Beale Street Could Talk 7.8/8

Such a beautiful movie. Never read the book so everything was new to me and I aint k kw bow it would end.

The Acting was great. Cinematography was great; really beautiful shot movie. Wiring was great. Directing wss great. Soundtrack was mostly great.

The depiction of black love, a black romance on screen was great.

Kiki Layne was great. Her narration throughout had a touch to it that really made the story. Plus she is such a snack. Around the way girl you wanna marry.

Stephan James was great. This was great casting.

Regina King was great. Wasn't the main character I wanted more of her

Teyonah Parris was great.

Brian Tyree Henry was great. Man when he starts talking about that experience :smh:

Colman Domingo and Michael Beach were great as the fathers of the couple and grandfathers to be.

Emily Rios was great. Completely believable in her scene.

Aunjanue Ellis was great. One scene and she stole it. Emoted and invoked emotion.

Everybody else was good and fit like a puzzle piece. Type of movie were it was cast so well and they did such a good job everybody comes off like they're performing at a high level.

The ending was not great. I was in to the story so much and was so aware of the still relevant messages that I wanted nothing but a happy ending. I wanted this couple to buck the trend and real life expectations. It was a very practical statistic type ending. It was ******* horrible but they made the best of it.

******* evil racist white ppl :smh:

That segues ways nicely in to....

Vice 6/8

I liked it. 30 min its pretty clear McKay is doing The Big Short version of a **** Cheney movie. This isnt a straight up biopic. Not the dramatic deep dive in to **** Cheney so it doesn't have that serious tone and dramatic flare. More of an overview. It covers his rise and political career but it is mainly a bullet point rundown of the unprecedented things he did as VP. It comes off more like lets see what Cheney got away with not accomplished played in a satirical way sonce these things really happened.

Probably the most startling fact is he was never this man of ambition. He was a simple man of means and a belief in one ideal about the office of the presidency. Completely amoral. Just followed power and operated accordingly. Dont think I've seen a better depiction of a sociopath thats leaned more in to the darker shades of gray and full on black this past decade.

The movie itself though clearly gets its Big Short on with Todd a.k.a fat Matt Damon narrating, the cut aways to pictures and video footage. More and more the movie takes on a reenactment in those how a crime went dowm tv shows or murder documentaries.

Thing is the movie simply never matched the greatness of The Big Short in execution. To me its just good.

Bale was outstanding though. By far. Adams was really good especially if thats anything like the real Lynne Cheney.

Everybody else was okay to good.

Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush just reminded me of a younger looking Dana Carvey doing his George H. W Bush imitation.

Just finished watching Searching w/ John Cho.

Low budget, but quality film. Had some nice twists and suspenseful moments.

Also, it was not only refreshing to have a predominately Asian cast, but an original plot idea as well that was executed awesomely through the lens of various video/chat platforms like Facetime etc.

Solid 5.5/8

Us looks like it'll deliver & a free point for, "I got 5 on it." interpretations in the trailer. Also, is there any movie Tom Cruise doesn't wind up sprinting at least once? Additionally, does anyone know where to find Split?

Master Zik Master Zik That was my main problem with Vice, McKay just tried to do The Big Short again with **** Cheney and it wasn’t as remotely as good imo. Also as somebody who followed politics pretty closely since Bush got “elected” in 2000, the bullet point rundown of all the **** he did just didn’t move me. I feel like people too young to remember the Bush years or just doesn’t follow politics would react more to it. Bale was incredible as Cheney though and looked exactly like him in certain shots.

Currently watching venom with my teenage son... Lost a lot of respect for Tom Hardy for this money grab. This is an awesomely crappy *** movie... Just stay away from comic movies dudes... Your Bane was awesome but this ish?!?!? Damn homey...
