Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Knives Out was fun
Daniel Craig had me  with his character

The Irishman :wow: :wow:

when deniro and Pesci start speaking Italian :pimp:

when Pesci came home covered in blood, I fully expected him to tell his wife he just hit a deer

Great film man. Would have loved to watch it on the big screen.

It is good to have you back mronegative mronegative
You were here from the beginning, you carried this thread for long stretches, hell you renamed it when we got ripped from S&T. Glad to have you back for a while. :nthat:

Those that don't know.....last Monday my wife called me with the worst call imaginable......her parents spent the night with us Sunday night, her and I went to work Monday morning while they slept, a few hours later they headed home and were struck head on by a "potential"* drunk driver just a few miles from our house. Just before noon. Zero skidmarks on our side, they never saw it coming, and in that instant, they were gone. As if that wasn't enough, the car went up in flames, removing our chance at seeing them at rest one final time. Today we had their service and I mean our family PACKED that funeral home. People we hadn't seen in 2-3 decades rolled up for this. My wife and daughter will never be the same......

* I say potential because the charges are still pending until the driver is released from the hospital, but we've been assured, it's coming. Sadly, she had a 4 year old relative in the car with her, that baby passed as well. All bad man. All bad. :frown:

I'll never forget my wife's voice in that phone call. Never....

jesus christ, my condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.

Knives Out 6.75/8 - In my top 10 for the year. Daniel Craig was hilarious. The cast had believable chemistry. Rian Johnson is a damn good director.

Family 5/8 - Enjoyable. Taylor Schilling had me laughing quite a bit. Gathering of the Juggalos is 100 percent not for me but I respect it.

Top 10 of the decade list coming soon after I watch Shoplifters.

Anyone seen Waves? Should I watch that too before formulating my list? :nerd:

Scorsese has made a really strong case for the 2010s being his best decade

Shutter Island
Hugo
Wolf of Wall Street
Silence
The Irishman
Quantity-wise in terms of # of good/great movies, probably. I fell asleep on Silence but the rest were money. I REALLY liked Hugo.

I’d probably say my favorite Marty decade was the 90’s.

Goodfellas
Cape Fear
Casino

5IVE decades of delivering 1-2 certified CLASSICS. What other director can claim that?

I really enjoyed Hugo too. Very fun in the beginning and pretty touching when you find out the REAL story in the second half. Its Scorsese’s tribute to the history of cinema.

So did I win best decade draft or naw?

I'm not gonna explain myself again!

Man......it rarely gets talked about in here, I don't know of many fans of it, but Veronica Mars S4 was tremendous.

I've loved the whole series, S1-3, the made up S4, the movie, the Hulu real S4, the returning characters all throughout, the writing, and Kristen Bell in her wheelhouse, but man.......

I hope we get S5. Somehow. I don't know why this series is forever plagued by money problems, but hopefully Frozen success helps Bell cover some of the costs. I want more of this show.

Anyone still buy actual Blu Ray or 4k movies? I usually go crazy on Black Friday weekend, but this year I realized I probably have about 50 movies still unopened just chillin on my Blu Ray shelf. Why am I going to waste money on **** I won't even watch

I did get John Wick 3 4k/Blu Ray/digital for $8 though :pimp:

I’m all about owning a physical copy of movies I love

I have, literally, 100's of Blu AND DVD's unopened.

But, I usually get to them eventually.

With films that are no doubts (Marvel, Star Wars, Tarantino etc) I buy those on release date. 20+ bucks each.

The stack above, those are film's I wait until Black Friday to pay 3-4-6 bucks for etc.

Dec alone will have the complete GoT series on Blu, 200+, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 20+, and Joker 20+. I buy those day 1.

This stack was maybe 140 bucks total.

Updated collection pics?:nerd: I think I probably have 200-300 Blu rays or so. I bought so many for like $5 when bestbuy had that trade in any DVD and get like any Blu Ray for $5 or something

I don't have a recent right now. Been a lot goin on.

Gimme a few days/weeks and I'll post one.

5 movies yesterday. Happy I saw all of them. Not a single weak one.

Waves 7/8

This was unexpected. Great cinematography, great soundtrack that was so on point. Music went the extra mile in matching scenes and character emotions. It looked beautiful and sounded great.

The acting was really good. I hated this had to be such a tragic story. I could've walked out. Sterling K. Brown was so good as that type domineering father. Reneè Goldsberry was really good as the mom/step-mom. Taylor Russell was solid carrying the movie in the 3rd act.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. is really on the rise. I need to see Luce ASAP. I took dude for granted with his supporting role in Godfather of Harlem.

I can see this movie and performances as sleepers come award season.

The Good Liar 7/8

So off the jump you know this is some sort of con film and expect greatness from Mirren and McKellen.

Ian's swag is on a billion. He is making conning look like an art. He's gaming businessmen, hired help that get greedy, and Mirren's character was the main mark. His character also has this crazy dark ruthless streak.

Mirren's character basically plays possum most of the movie. Halfway through though you can feel she's pulling the bigger con, you almost think its going down when the grandson confronts dude about who he really is but that 3rd act twist and reveal is really something no one can expect.

The story is so well written and movie so well acted that it keeps your attention beginning to end.

Queen & Slim 7.3/8

Was looking forward to this and it definitely delivered. A crazy situation of a first time date leading to you being on the run for murder. Going from strangers to ride or die. The situations that lead to them surviving and getting further in their journey go from believable to fictional. Like all the ppl that helped them along the way or didn't say anything and snitches make sense but no serious manhunt by police or FBI once they cross several states to their destination was crazy

The main focus is on the characters, Kaluuya and Turner-Smith deliver. This is suppose to be Jodie Turner-Smith's breakout role and its no surprise given what I've seen from her in Jett. Kaluuya once again hold it down. You believe these are two young ppl in over their heads and you root for them. You learn about them in subtle ways to see why their opposites and at the same time have a lot in common. They also manage to grow as characters as their relationship develops. In that sense the mkvie is also a love story. That's why I was so disappointed in the ending but I guess it'd be too fake to end any other way.

The funniest part of the movie is the time spent with Bokeem Woodbine in Norelans with his stable of hos

This was another movie with an amazing soundtrack and score. Songs matched scenes down to the tee and was really covering the wide spectrum of blackness.

Honey Boy 7/8

Didn't expect this to be that good. The story or plot is choppy in delivery but it's really straightforward in message so the acting tells it to you up front.

The little kid playing Otis was great. Really relayed the feeling of desperation, sadness, and hope of wanting his dad to be a better father. The sense that if he wasn't working for his son he wouldn't even be around.

Shia was great as the father. He played a troubled yet typical scumbag dad so well. Dude is loaded with problems and he really shouldn't be a single father.

Lucas Hedges just has it. He plays Otis as a young man in a rehab program and is just so good being a character in so much pain, struggling with depression, haunted by his childhood, and just stuck in this career he's realizing he isn't even sure he wants.

It really did hit me that if this was Shia's childhood it totally makes sense why he is the way he is and I see him in a totally different light.

Dark Waters 7.4/8

Oh this DuPont corporation, what a bunch of evil scumbags. Knowingly poisoning Americans with Teflon for 40 years

This is one those stories you expect when you're aware of the corruption and greed in big business but wish wasnt true.

Ruffalo carried this movie and keeps you engaged. The writing is smart enough to focus key points and jarring imagery to keep you glued to your seat. Once you get a grasp of this David and Goliath story you just naturally want to see it through to it's end.

Robert Bilott is a fighter. This is the lawyer Ruffalo plays that takes on DuPont and wins at every stage, goes through every roadblock, passes every impediment. He sacrifices his marriage and being a father to his sons to fight for this community poisoned by DuPont. Dude fights them for over 2 decades now and is still fighting.

This was just a great story that needed to be told.
