Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Stuart Beattie: One of my favorite screenwriters of all-time.

Looking at his face I was just expecting a long list of writing credits from the 90s

But with my age I'm forgetting that was basically 35 years ago.

Not a long list but damn did the story for the Black Pearl so he's good on my book.

TG Maverick was amazing and the callbacks to the OG and dynamic between Cruise and Teller really worked. 7.5/8 for me.

Also I knew Jen Con wasn't in the OG but they really made it seem like her and Mav had some previous connection. Were they just supposed to have had some previous relationship not shown on screen???

I just have never liked the role.
Hated it when Hackman played it.
Hated it when Kevin Spacey played it.
Actually finally somewhat liked the way he was introduced and the limited or extended role he played and would.
problem was Jesse tried too hard to upstage Heath Ledger's Joker that ended up confusing the role of mixing a Joker and Riddler persona rather than doing a Lex Luthor impression. I was like, "WTF is he doing?" Hackman was mediocre, Spacey was better and Michael RosenBaum is the best. Jesse's impression shouldn't even exist because it's an insult. much like why the feminist Ghostbusters shouldn't even exist as well.

I read a review or comment somewhere basically saying the scene in the movie was in many ways Tom speaking to Val in real life and it kind of speaks to why Tom Cruise is such a maniac and why he's so dedicated why he's still doing what he's doing is because he can he's fortunate enough to be healthy to still have his body and his ability and his drive where is another great actor like Val Kilmer has been suffering and struggling and can't do the same things anymore so it's almost like Tom as Maverick was saying I can still do this so I must still do this so in a lot of ways this movie is kind of bigger than the role and it's kind of about Tom Cruise and his dedication to the craft and why he takes things so seriously it's cuz he feels like he's supposed to because he still can when I dig that a lot also I apologize for the run on sentences talking to my phone
Another great actor? C'mon man, what you meant was a great actor and a guy who has made some great action movies - and I'll give him credit for probably being the greatest action movie star, at least of this generation, but Cruise isn't a good actor.

Uh......A Few Good Men never happened?
Born 4th July?

He's not Leo, but he absolutely qualifies as "good".

he's good but not great.
among Tom's best movies, it's most of the time the co-stars that carried the movie. Rain Man was Dustin Hoffman's shining glory and Jack Nicholson made A Few Good Men.
Tom had a good performance in the "Interview with A Vampire" also.

As sneeker sneeker said - good, not great. I really enjoy a lot of the movies he’s been in but not because of a great dramatic performance.

Jack had less than 10 minutes of screen time in AFGM. Tom was in damn near every scene....

tropic thunder :emoji_fire:

Collateral
Interview With a Vampire
AFGM
Jerry McGuire
Magnolia
Born on the 4th
Rain Man
Eyes Wide Shut
The first Mission Impossible
Edge of Tomorrow

We have this discussion once a quarter I feel. He’s absolutely one of the goats no matter how you wanna break it down. Box office, Oscar worthy performances, action star, whatever. Pretty sure we established that TC slander will NOT be tolerated unless it’s short jokes or Scientology jabs.

He’s respected in the public and in the industry. Has been directed by Kubrick, Speilberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON, Cameron Crowe, Michael Mann…….

Good but not great :lol :lol
