So.....randomly, I decided to watch Top Gun Maverick again.......man....... They absolutely CRUSHED this film. I don't know what I gave it in 2021 but I'm disappointed in myself if I didn't 8/8 it.

Brilliant work, every detail. Perfect blend of nostalgic angle + mix of new(er) version, ie dogfight football vs volleyball, singles + doubles jet versions, then the Cruise as Viper callbacks.
Scene with Ice was absolutely flawless and emotional both serious and with humor.

Hollywood needs to study this film and teach it in college curriculums.
Top Gun Maverick is going to be my yearly Memorial Day movie. :pimp:

It’s a damn shame we could only get ONE mad max movie with Charlize and Hardy in our lifetimes. They should have been churning these out like Pirates of the Caribbean movies man. Tom Hardy should have gotten a Captain Jack Sparrow type run at the character. 1 performance wasn’t enough
Director is too slow for that and he ain’t taking his hands off the wheel.

i haven't seen nun of these
I liked Curse of the Black Pearl (1st POTC movie when Johnny Depp) a lot when it first came out. Just a fun, family-friendly action flick.

Second one was decent, but then I started to tire of the Jack Sparrow schtick (including actually adding animatronic versions of him to the ride at Disneyland |l).

I have no excitement towards a reboot or sequel.

Was a fan of the first trilogy tbh but I was partial to the genre through watching old Errol Flynn movies with my grandma growing up

So big swashbuckling epics are right up my alley and the first 3 were a lot of fun and offered up all of that plus terrific performances.

Can definitely understand Jack Sparrow wearing thin on folks though, felt like that role became indistinguishable from Johnny Depp for a few years and it felt like he played a different version each time in his movies from around that time

The last 2 lost much of the charm of the original 3 with the big cast change up and I don't think they necessary. I don't think rebooting them is necessary either but Bruckheimer must need a new yacht or something.

In 1960’s Atlanta Georgia, a couple named Walter and Betty Roberts ran a small theater for children in the city. As you can imagine, almost every aspect of the city in the 1960’s, was completely segregated. EXCEPT this children’s theater group.

A few of the children happened to be the kids of Martin Luther King and his Wife Coretta. They became close friends of the Roberts through the theater group.

In 1967, a year before MLK was killed, the Roberts found themselves in a predicament. They were about to give birth to their third child, and had no way to pay for the hospital bills for the birth. They decide to go to the hospital anyway and when they get there, they find out all their bills had been paid in full. By none other than their friends Martin and Corretta king.

Later that day, Walter and Betty Roberts gave birth to their third child. Julia Roberts.

Tonight (YouTube)... I begin to fill holes in my viewing history

A few thoughts:

If the latest two Halloween films were never made, this would easily be the worst.

Were child labor laws not in effect for this film? Some of the scenes with the young girl were wild

The ending would actually be fire if it wasn’t preceded by a trash movie

Some of this action reminds me more of what the Die Hard sequels tried to do

With Bacon and JGL in this I don’t think the movie will be bad at all. Just don’t think it’ll reach the comedy levels of the first two.
