Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

NT man crushing on Shia now? 8o :x I missed that. Props for banging mad broads for that movie but I'm pretty sure NT prefers Gosling.
i like most of rocks movies and hes a big draw at the box office but he needs to stay far away from star wars unless hes a storm trooper
I can easily see The Rock as a mute elite soldier of the dark side like Darth Maul.

I like the Rock in movies, all of his lead stuff is decent at best. The drug trafficking one seems like the most interesting so far. Can't really hate on what skill he has.I still remember him from being in that movie with Travolta, Andre 3000, and Christina Milan where he had an afro and think was a body guard/aspiring actor. It was the sequel.

Anyone seen Nathan For You? ... Just watched it for the first time...

Okay. Just. Okay.

Don't look it up. Don't look into it. Just watch it.

Don't find out anything about it...just watch it.

I'm in tears. Find it. Watch it.

*not spoilers, but I can't help but overhype after this*

Expert trolling. This kid is a young Canadian Borat.

It's the closest anyone has gotten to the Ali G Show to me, except instead of using foreign urban culture to troll American politicans, Nathan uses the allure of business makeover reality shows like Bar Rescue and Kitchen Nightmares and Undercover Boss to troll the American small-businessman. That's my weakness. I love Bar Rescue. I love this show.

It's so...damn well made. Anyone can have jokes. He nails the tone of every moment. It feels like a reality spinoff of Arrested Development. It's the troll version of This American Life. It's a collection of the greatest Daily Show segments never made.

And the best thing about him is...he lets the people breathe. He lets the story breathe. It's just plot twist after plot twist. Dude is relentless, and his character is bulletproof. And he has no boundaries. Nothing shakes him. I haven't seen any new anything as funny as the first 4 episodes of this.

I'm so impressed. My lungs hurt.

Don't let anyone tell you what any of it is about. Watch it.

Just recently, writing team John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (who have The Incredible Burt Wonderstone in theaters now) sat down with us for an interview about their approach to writing/directing the comedy franchise reboot of Vacation, the film series that originated with National Lampoon and followed Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo taking their family on vacations full of mishaps. In case you hadn't heard, Ed Helms is leading the film as the Griswold son Rusty, now all grown up with a family of his own, as he embarks on a trip with his family and now THR reports Christina Applegate will play his wife.

Applegate's character is said to be strong-willed and might be losing interest in Rusty for one reason or another, but that's all we know about the film for now. The story is said to follow Rusty and his Griswold clan taking his family on a trip similar to the one his family took when they were young. Could we be looking at a straight-up remake/reboot where they head to Wallyworld again? That remains to be seen, but as Daley and Goldstein told us, they're hoping Chase and D'Angelo will return for a cameo as the two Griswold grandparents, so maybe they have some sound advice for Rusty.

Applegate is a fine addition to any comedy, and it's good she has even more big screen gigs lining up after the NBC series "Up All Night" went in the toilet by revamping the series format and losing the actress and showrunner earlier this year. The actress has held her own with big dogs like Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (she's shooting the sequel with Harrison Ford now), not to mention delivering great laughs in Going the Distance. In case you didn't know, she's also voices one of the Chipettes in the Alvin and the Chipmunks sequels, but we won't hold that against her. Sound good?

^I don't think I like Ed Helms...but that's just me.

But yeah, I never expected anything like what Nathan For You was. I figured it'd be some kind hit and miss, cancelled in one season, maybe you remember a couple jokes, but probably not Comedy Central thing. But it's damn good.

Ed Helms is cool, he just isn't Michael Scott.

I saw Ed Helms do a 'puppet' talk show a few years ago at a tiny (the place was small, but its a big name) comedy club, had to have been no bigger than 1000 sq ft. He actually came kinda last minute to fill in for Amy Pouhler since she was about to have a baby at the time.

Son was hilarious. He was drunk as a skunk, but he brought it. Ever since then, I've tried not to give up on him

If watching and discussing TV isn't enough and you want to read about it, don't pick up anything other than Alan Sepinwall's The Revolution Was Televised

Unsurprisingly, arguably the most important TV critic in the Internet Age has written an amazing book. I'm only halfway through and I've skipped over a couple chapters (Never got around to Deadwood or Battlestar but both will be watched) and it's absolutely stellar. It covers a bit of background until TV drama was changed with Oz and HBO and dedicates a chapter to Oz, The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, The Shield, Battlestar, Buffy, Lost, 24, Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. It gives you the history of getting these shows to air, behind the scenes info from the creators and network execs, pivotal moments of the series, and their impact on the TV landscape.

His writing is interesting, sharp, and accessible enough so you didn't have to study TV and film criticism in a university to understand it

I started it this week (after getting it for Christmas and forgetting about it) and I can't put it down.

I guess since he self-published, the original run sold out? Because it shows on Amazon a new cover and a release date in May Amazon product ASIN 1476739676

They'll be using this as a textbook in college for film and television courses in the future, it's great. And from what I can tell, it doesn't spoil anything if you haven't gotten to that particular show, so if you haven't seen all the shows, you can still read the chapters you have.

Just re-watched a couple old ones I'd never gotten around to a second time. The Island was first. Lot better than I remember. Loved the idea behind it, very well thought out first hour, then he has to remind us this is a Michael Bay picture for about a half hour (at least it wasn't in Miami) before a solid close. Lot of great imagery, the actors all worked really well also.
One thing tho......Obi Wan was about to get it in for his first time with Scar-Jo in her absolute prime??!!?!????!!? :eek 4 seconds would have been an absolute miracle.

Ghosts of Mars was the other, holy hell at that being where I first learned of Jason Statham, had no idea. Meh. Now I get why I never went back and watched it a second time. Had heart, but a bit too campy. He coulda slowed it down and really made it fun, no need to turn it into a shoot em up.

Wanderlust...I liked it.

Paul Rudd found his zone and son is banking from it haha. Every movie he does is the same

I just watched Goodfellas...I don't see the hype.

I was bored by the hour mark, but I kept watching.

It's an interesting story, but it was boring to me.

Joe Piesea's bar stories were funny though.

"What are you still doing here, I thought I told you to go .... your mother?"

I watched Ghosts of Mars for the first time all the way through about a month ago. It was putrid. It's Carpenter trying to make a Carpenter film in an era that wasn't really wanting to see a Carpenter film. It just didn't work, and he didn't have the right cast.

If he had Kurt Russell? Roddy Piper? Keith David? Maybe. He was just trying to do too much and keep with the times.

Carpenter has let it be known recently that the times have passed him by, and that he's pretty much done with film. He has just lost his passion for it, and I can't blame him. There's a very strict formula that's been in place for the past 10-15 years, and it's not something he would excel in.

And that's okay, he served his purpose in cinema. He made one of the greatest horror thrillers of all time, and it will remain that way. Not all great directors can stand the test of time.

Once you start, you won't stop. It's that kind of book.

And Goodfellas is a masterpiece. Opinions to the contrary are wrong.
