.  Make no mistake about champ, when it comes to the AL East it's the Yankees and everybody else.  Although I'm happy for the O's "so called" success so far this year let's look back on this thead in late May and see where they stand.

4-0 start is really nothing to toot your horn over...but in looking at the #'s since Buck took over, how can you not be somewhat optimistic?

Like I said...I just want the team to finish over .500 this season.

Hey I'm happy for the O's and the good start that they are off to so far and even more so happy for the local fans here.  Lord knows the fans need some type of excitememnt and something to look forward to in a team seeing how no local teams are and have been able to provide that besides that Caps really in recent years.  I'm just saying don't you think it's a little premature to be making a thread about the O's thus far, not even saying you per se DoubleJ's but just in general.  I mean if this were football with only 16 games I can see why because 1/4 of the season is over but in baseball it''s a LONG stretch.  There's still 150+ more games to play.

Why does it matter? There are Mets and Mariners threads, and I doubt they're making the playoffs...

Yup....

OP should just turn this into a season thread....

What's impressed me the most about the 4-0 start is the way in which they've won.  The middle of the order hasn't done much and it's been B.Rob/Wieters/Markakis and the pitching carrying the load.  Can't wait to see what happens when the bats of Vlad, Lee, Jones, & Reynolds come alive.

Totally different champ.  Those are regular season threads for the Mets and Mariners, meaning those threads discuss the games during the regular season for those specific teams.  What OP did was completely different and create a new thread trying to highlight the success of the O's thus far.  I can't knock dude for his excitement cause like I said it's good to see the O's off to a good start so far, I'm just saying it's really too early in the season to try and showcase the number of wins for the O's.  I mean seriously, we haven't even had 1 whole week of baseball since the season began.  It would be the equivalent of starting a thread for the Daytona 500 for Kyle Busch after lap # 1 highlighting that he's in the lead.  Yeah he's the leader right now, but there's still another 199 laps more to go.

that AL East battle is gonna be fun to watch whens its almost playoff time..

of course, i expect my yanks to take the division but i perosonally think you guys might end up with wild card

So if OP changes the thread title to "Orioles Season Thread," you'll stop posting?

OP, if you please.

the orioles aren't sniffing the playoffs. not only will they finish behind the yankees and red sox, but they'll also have a worse record than the top 2 or possibly 3 teams in the AL central (white sox, twins, tigers) meaning no wild card. with that said, you can clearly tell the team is making moves in the right direction but they're far from the top of the division.

While its great the O's are doing well to start the season, it's just that.

The season is 4 days old, we always like to jump the gun and make quick observations...let's see where the O's are in 3-4 weeks

Hopefully Matusz can pick up where he left off last season when he gets back. Agreed that a .500 season would be great progress for the O's.

AL East is easily the most stacked division in the league. MLB needs to do the right thing, and split up the Yanks and Sox.

They'll never split up the Yankees and Sox and rightfully so.  What they need is realignment.  Two divisions in the AL and NL or move teams to different divisions again.

But then again, the O's aren't the team I had in mind to move divisions

Team W-L GB
1. Orioles 38-23 --
2. Blue Jays 32-27 5
3. Yankees 32-29 6
4. Rays 30-30 7 1/2
5. Red Sox 29-30 8

Showalter is getting a lot of credit for the success, rightly, but he knows the Orioles still have work to do; the evolution must continue if Baltimore is going to contend seriously against the Yankees and Red Sox. They need more pitching, more consistency in the offense. Showalter told the players at the outset of spring training that the winter work of the front office was finished, and that the managers and the coaches can only do so much; it comes down to the players.

On Monday, the Orioles' players were good. Roberts mashed a pivotal home run, his second of the season, and yet again the pitching was good; Baltimore's ERA in the first four games is a clean 1.00, and the staff has held opponents to a .152 average.

It's a start.

Honestly, I just want the team to finish over .500

That would be a HUGE step in the right direction. They've responded well to Buck and it's easy to see that the culture of the team has changed since he came on board. I was

when I turned on the O's/Tigers game on Monday and saw the crowd.
Seriously, I used to be a DIE HARD O's fan; now I just hope they don't embarrass themselves every year. If we are above .500 after the all star break I'll start getting my hopes up. We start out pretty well almost every year and then completely fall off the map so I'm not even surprised to see them start out 4-0.
The utter failure of the O's franchise pretty much made me completely quit following baseball

Your O's picked up Kevin Gregg from my Blue Jays, be prepared for a lot of nail-biting 9th innings
roll.gif

my blue jays are looking good so far but its inevitable that we'll end up 3rd place in the AL East AT BEST.

I'm wishing them the best of luck this year and I really like the lineup...

Its just that damn near every year, they start strong and vanish in about a month or two later...

AL East is still tough, but I hope the O's can play consistent...
