I think you guys are hitting on a societal issue.  Everything is awkward to kids these days because they live on the internet.  They have such few interactions with actual humans, or new company, that if there is silience or small talk = awkward.

I can't stand it and the lack of social skills people have.  And this is coming from some one who is introverted. 
Casual Convo at bar with person who just happens to be standing next to me to buy a drink or something:

Me: "hey how are you"
Female: "fine"
Me: "Thats good to hear, can't believe how crowded it is in here"
Female: "yeah"
Me: "So you from around here?"
Female: "yeah"
Me: "oh me too where at?"
Female: "bel air"
Me: "oh cool....."


Female walks over to friends.."this creepy guy was hitting on me at the bar"

I've had this happen to me on several occasions while texting a girl, so then I just completely stop texting her. Then she'll say "how come you aren't talking anymore?" like *%@*$ how about you contribute something, its a conversation!

Every girl I know for some reason always thinks something is akward...girls think dudes are creeps when a dude facebook chats them, seriously? Somebody gassed these women...my ex used to call everything akward, we would be out in public and she would see somebody she knows and not say anything to them...I'm like why did you just look them right in the eye and not say anything if you know them? I don't know how it is with grown women, but every high school girl has other girls complimenting her profile pics telling her how she's "gorgeous" and how they're "soooo jealous"... even the most ridiculous girls have friends pumping them full of pride. You have got to be kidding me like WHAT IS THE POINT??

Couldn't have said it better myself OP. Today's society is getting worse and worse. Someone else said something about talking to a girl waiting in line next to him to order a drink. Why can't I be friendly and say "hey, what's going on?" Why does everything today have be deemed some kind of advancement?

Yeah it does limit it but that shouldn't even come in to play. I don't decide whether to smile back at a girl who's doing a polite smile based on her looks. I just do it. A polite smile is just a polite smile, nothing more.

Girls with stanky attitudes are going to act stanky until you give them a reason to be polite (this is backwards and stupid; they're only treating you like more than dirt if they want something from you whether it be the D or a drink)
Girls without stanky attitudes will be polite until you give them a reason to be stanky (this is normal human interaction)

Can't front, this is kinda the reason I aim for 6 and 7's when at the bar/club.  they know what the deal is.  the dime chicks be on some other *#*$
