I believe Crep Protect is the trending protector rn. NeverWet is pretty decent too. Tbh I didn't spray mine with anything, just don't wear em in the rain.

I wouldn't cut the straps, it takes all the character out of the boot. Now they are just an average looking boot with a stacked heel.
