He has opportunities that street folks could only dream of. Private schools, tutors, doesn't even have to work an after school job if he doesn't want to.
Most people sell drugs because they have to, Tariq is selling drugs because he wants to. He was completely insolated from the game until Kanan started messing with him.
Also, there's a reason why he's trying to keep his kid away from the game. You either wind up dead or in jail, no such thing as a retired drug dealer. Why would any parent want that for their kid?
