Precious Trailer (Based on "Push") - Nov. 5

Great movie with an incredible message!
Its sad because you know that this is happening every single second around the globe somewhere though.

Saw it the other day. Poignant story, visceral film... it was pretty good.

Monique played the hell out of the mother role. That monologue at the end was disturbingly convincing.

This movie looks too contrived. Granted, I haven't read the book and I imagine it'd be more worthwhile. But from previews, this movie seem to play towhat a friend of mine calls the lowest common denominator. I understand many issues in this movie are real and are happening to real people daily. Butlike... the circumstances surrounding the lives of these character are a combination of the most unbelievable circumstances one could imagine. ALL placedwithin this film for the sake of tear jerking. I don't have the heart of a killer. I'm sure the movie would hit a nerve and I'd have some sort ofemotional reaction to at least one situation presented. But a film like this is almost like comedies that go for the cheap laugh. It appears to beunintelligent and unimaginative.

I'll wait until one of my relatives cop from their local bootlegger.

yeah

that, and, who in their right minds would WANT to see a movie that involves

"... she has been impregnated twice by her father, Carl, and suffers constant physical and mental abuse from her unemployed mother, Mary (Mo'Nique). The family resides in a Section 8 tenement and subsists on welfare. Her first child, known only as "Mongo" (short for "Mongoloid"), has Down's Syndrome and is beingcared for by Precious's grandmother.[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precious_(film)#cite_note-varietyoct07-7[/sup]
... While she is being raped by her father, she looks at the ceiling and imagines herself in a music video shoot..."

it's just too much. i hate rape scenes. it's real life, yes, but why do they have to put it in films? it's so... unpleasant.

Saw it last night. The trailer made the movie look way better than it was. Not bad tho. But yeah Monique was one crazy b.

thats funny cause i thought the opposite going in...only reason i went was cause a friend was dying to see it...

not necessarily...

see when you watch the movie and think about it its not as if the author just placed together a whole bunch of random problems just to reach for tears...

the problems arise from one thing and lead to another, more like a domino effect that begins with the mother

???

well going by what you're saying...why do you have to put anything in films?

i mean i can understand you not wanting to view something like that (and the rape scene isn't OD) but you cant question why anyone else would want to as ifthere's something wrong with it.

EDIT:

by the way i love your production man...dope stuff

I get how one is directly related to another; however, that doesn't make it any less forced. Again, I'm not blaming Sapphire because I haven't readthe book. But the movie - from what I see in previews and "first look" kind of shows - is cheap. I go back to the cheap laughs comparison. When youplace certain elements in a film, you can have a sure shot tear jerker. It's similar to emotional slap stick; a pie in the face of your humanity. This is aLifetime Movie on 'roids.

I made this point to my sister and she agreed but said she still planned to see it because she believes she'd enjoy it. That I have no problem with. Whatdoes bother me is how so many can deny the dumbed down nature of the movie and refuse to see how extraordinary supplants reality... end rant.

i know MANY girls who have been in these situations before. this movie may be made for them, not the NT demographic. for example, i know a girl who was rapedand impregnated by her PASTOR, and subseqently abused and villified by her mother. you dont think that she could relate to a movie like this? that it wouldntempower her to know that somebody else has shared her life experiences? this movie isnt for everybody just like i shouldnt have taken my grandma to see man onfire, she didnt get that like most guys wouldnt get this.

The Jamaican girl used to get raped by her brother too, that's why she looked so uncomfortable when Precious was talking about it

im not a fan of all these like sad movies and all that but this movie had me almost in tears there were some really sad parts.....i recommend people to gowatch it

The movie was weird. All of those random cut scenes really hurt the overall value of the film. The transition in the movie was horrible if you ask me. I meanit was OK.

Blind Side was a much better movie starting a big fat black person

haha. nah i havent seen it. I thought about what i wrote a second after i posted but was too lazy to change it
