Why not to expect Capcom vs. SNK 2 on PSN, XBLA
cvs2-logo-1.jpg

In the words of Lord Cutler Beckett, it's just good business. Or, as Capcom's Seth Killian explained on the Capcom-Unity forums, releasing a downloadable version of Capcom vs. SNK 2 could be bad business. In a lengthy response to a call for the game on PSN, Killian gave several reasons for not re-releasing Capcom vs. SNK 2; all of them centered squarely on business. Among other things, the audience for the game is less sizable than that of Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, meaning a Capcom vs. SNK 2 port probably wouldn't be worth the money and resources Capcom would need to spend.

Killian noted that even if sales covered cost, placing developers on the project would mean removing them from others, like Super Street Fighter IV. Killian put it simply, saying, "When fan service becomes a black hole for time and money, that party gets ended pretty quick."

Another explanation, according to Killian, is that Capcom doesn't want to flood the market with fighting games. He suggested that most gamers only buy one or two fighting games a year -- thanks mainly to the amount of time it takes to master them. In other words, releasing too many games could dilute the sales of all of them. Besides, we all know that what Capcom should be working on is a new Darkstalkers.

GameStop: PS3 sales remain 'very strong' post price cut
ps3slim580_081709.jpg

For a moment, let's ignore the billions Sony has lost on the PS3 so far and focus on optimism for the future. GameStop executive vice president Tony Bartel notes that momentum for the console has maintained a solid sales pace following Sony's most recent price drop and hardware remodeling.

Bartel tells IndustryGamers that there was a natural surge after the initial announcement of the price drop months ago and that the retailer has seen "very strong" PS3 sales through October. He didn't reveal specific data, though, and we'll have to wait and see if his claims are reflected in the overall October hardware sales figures released by the NPD later this month.

Pepsi partners with Uncharted 2 for PS3 bundle giveaway
unchartedadventureintopepsi580px.jpg

Sure, you could be like one of those tea-bagging Mountain Dew drinkers, clearly unprepared for The Ride of Your Life[emoji]8482[/emoji]. Or, friend, you could be a hero. A Pepsi drinking hero.

And that's exactly the choice that folks living in select states have to make when they go to their local supermarkets starting this week. If you dare to purchase specially-marked 12-packs of Pepsi, you could be 1 of 20 equally daring folks who wins a PlayStation 3 system and the entire Uncharted series (yep, all two games!). If not, you could be 1 of 200 intrepid adventurers who wins a copy of the most recent -- and most excellent -- game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. If none of those, well ... you should probably switch to Coke.

All the nitty gritty details are right here.

PSA: 250GB PS3 available now
ps3box580250.jpg

Just a quick reminder to let everyone know that the 250GB PlayStation 3 is available now in North America. The package runs $349 and crams a console, 250GB hard drive, controller and composite AV cables into the box. As the more astute readers have no doubt realized, the only thing different from the 120GB model is the 250GB hard drive. Still, as Gaming Bits points out, that's more than twice the storage for an extra $50 over the $299 model.

Of course, with Black Friday sales just a few weeks away, you might consider waiting to see what deals will be available before taking the plunge.

The Street Fighter II HD Remix intro that never was
ssfii-hdintro.jpg

We're sure everyone likes the redrawn, high definition art featured in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, but did you know that Udon also redrew the original SSFII intro sequence? It's true, and Capcom Unity has the video to prove it. After the break, you'll find the intro movie that Udon created, though it never made it into the actual game. The video features Ryu doing his fireball thing, while Chun-Li poses and Cammy (for some reason) gives everyone a raspberry. Watch the redrawn trailer and the original after the break.

Might as well post something since I'm up...

SCEA Patent Shows Plans For Mystery Science Theater 3000 Style Interactive TV

sonyp1_thumb.jpg

Sony Computer Entertainment America may bigger plans for the PlayStation 3 as a video player. They recently filed a patent that mixes Netflix Party on Xbox Live and Mystery Science Theater 3000. The document actually mentions Mystery Science Theater 3000 as inspiration for the invention in the background section.

This proposed program puts an overlay on top of a "media presentation" like a TV show or movie and allows players to interact with it while the presentation is playing. How? Here's an example from the patent

"For example, avatars displayed to a user, in response to user gestures in the real world, e.g. in response to manipulation of a game controlleror other such expedient, may toss tomatoes that stick to the actor's face or bounce off the actor's face and roll along a table that appears in the movie or television show."

Tomato tossing could be a scored mini-game. The patent explains players could get more points if you hit a star, for example. Overlays will act like virtual worlds with their own physics not related to the movie and tomato throwing avatars controlled by players.

sonya_thumb.jpg

In this example, an avatar gets up to kick a movie character's butt, literally.

sonyb2_thumb.jpg

And, finally SCEA explains a spider shooting mini-game.

In FIG. 4A, one audience member (35a) has a game controller or other such device that is used to shoot at the spider. Other audience members may passively view the presentation. As an actor walks through a scene in the media presentation, the virtual spider moves with the actor, and also moves up the actors back to bite the actor in the neck.

In FIG. 4C, the audience member 35a has shot at the spider and hit it. This is indicated in this embodiment by the spider exploding 49. Because the spider was hit (and the actor spared the fate of having his neck bitten), the score 40 of the audience member is incremented. Thus, Gary's score is incremented to 111.

Sony mentions other applications like a Where's Waldo style game where you can hunt for characters and sponsorships like giving players Coca-Cola cans to lob instead of tomatoes.

Interesting idea, perhaps best applied to B-movies and comedies. Maybe, Sony plans to integrate this in the PlayStation Home theater or for games with chock full of cutscenes.

lol at thinking you're gonna assemble a team to beat the Kliq before ever playing against them. Sorry, but the best players on NT are in the Kliq.
They're the best? Maybe thus far. I'm not disputing that. I've never played with any of them, right. But its not hard putting rounds in dudes.

All things come to an end.

So whose with me?

Any who watch I won't be able to find anyone from NT to team with.

"They are too good" steez.

ANYONE UP FOR KILLZONE?

Because its true. That's how we recruited in the early days.

You can find some players that are great, but good luck getting a team that could beat us.

I mean, for example, Ray, Jason, and I have probably played close to 10,000 matches together on COD4... we kind of know what the others do.

Also, you have to take in to account you probably suck.
