Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I’d definitely put Chainz over everyone you just named.

I rock with Ross, but isn’t seeing Chainz bars. Krit cool, but he isn’t seeing Chainz. CyHi is dope, but nah. Not better than Chainz. Scarface a legend, and a staple in the rap... but I’d listen to a new 2 Chainz track before I peep the Scarface track.

Nick Grant and Phonte? Come on fam. You gotta move past the fact that he didn’t give you the verse. You asked for that joint years ago. Let that hate go. :smh:

Nah you gotta get outta here with this. Even 2Chainz wouldn’t agree :lol

That’s quite possibly the most Joe Budden response I’ve ever seen from you fam.

Nick Grant’s body of work is too young. No way am I rolling with him being better than Chainz. Phonte drops every 8 years.

These are 2 rappers who are gifted as hell, but they haven’t shown the consistency that Tittyboi has. That plays a part in my evaluation of their skill set. And again, I’m going on mainstream rap. Not many people would call Phonte mainstream, and Nick Grant is still relatively unknown despite being dope.

What?

I'm not asking who makes the best albums or music.

They are lyrically way beyond 2 Chainz.

I can say Los is lyrically better than a lot of rappers without expecting Reasonable Doubt or Illmatic.

Do ya'll correlate content with lyricism or something?

Because I never listened to chainz and got the level of lyricism yall taking about.

I don’t. We tend to look at lyricism through a 90s East Coast centric lens.....and perception based on who the artist presents themselves as. There’s mad different layers and angles to it.

Chainz can def rap for real for real. You just gotta strip your perception and actually listen to ****.

I didn't say there was no level of lyricism but I dont know if I would call him lyricist. And I never had s problem with Chainz. Been listening since as long as I knew of him

2 chainz be saying lowkey dope stuff. His content is trash though. Ross persona got dudes fooled tho. He starting to get overrated.

Gimme a 16 year old Boosie over anybody :hat

And a life sentence....ain’t the right sentence, but thats what they give us
knowing good and well we N****s and our ppl can’t come get us
but thats how it be, sht when you thug in the worst way
should’ve knew the consequences of a thug in the first place”

What?

So dumb down the criteria and give it a curve

That's where we are today, everyone dumbing **** down and accepting it. I'll never accept it. Average lyrics are average. Chainz says some dope **** but he says some real corny **** too.

Listened to Kyle New album last night, it’s ok. Not what I was expecting...last project was way way better imo

Nav **** what I thought it’d be..more fire beats cringy lyrics lol. Travis came thru and killed that one track tho, straight fire

Going to check out lil baby **** just off strength off the drake donation

I'm trying to get into Lil Baby but it's just not catching.

I can't identify anything he does that stands out to me. Gunna's flows and hooks are what attracts me to his sound, but Lil Baby's just kinda....there. Not bad but nothing exciting either.

I feel the same way about Gunna
