Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I don't think ***** even know what the word corny means anymore....

Sht just sound played and overused. We're like in an inception world of being "corny". Again, Akademiks is a square....but he wasn't wrong about the perception of Wale amongst some fans....he might've used the wrong word though.....

This **** dumb to me now :lol.

And I'm completely find with this but to say Ak is doing thangs and Wale is a goober hurt my head

The ppl Akademics appeals to are a different kinda corny that ironically call Wale corny. Like yall said its really bizarro world now

Wale dont come off to me as a normal guy like Cole does tho. He seems self entitled af & that can throw alot of ppl off

Akademics a square but ppl willing to overlook that cuz hes not a rapper, he can be funny at times to them & hes somewhat informative

Idk i dont pay attention to him anymore tho. Im outta the loop on everything nowadays lol

Theres a big *** difference from being a square and being cornball.

Also. Other than being pretty cute, nadeska is horrible. Every time she says her opinion on something I'm just like ***** shut up. Why are you here?
Horrible is a bit much but she does seem to have minimal input and purpose but then again she's only the "moderator"
Just wanted to say co-sign on everything Joe said about Logic; spot on.
I think Logic's biggest struggle is that he will rarely be outright compared to top lyriscists that arent' white. Practically every white rapper is going to be compared to Em off top and then to G-Eazy or Yelawolf. Very few if any make it out of Em's shadow and he's not gonna be the one to do it. Yelawolf had the chance but idk wtf happened

.
Barely anybody uses corny anymore so at this point is just being thrown around. Wale not "corny" he does act pretty lame tho

this isn't the era for wale..90's early 2000s would have been better for him imo

also im hella late but if I was yatchy i would take joe's words to heart...what he should want from hiphop is longevity..im not a yatchy fan but i hope he works on his craft so he can be around 1 to 2 yrs from now

Wale been like that since day one. Yall gotta remember where son is from, DMV ****** think they the **** in every single situation :lol But he got famous and then people at large could see that behavior amplified cuz people were paying attention to him vs when he was a local *****.

That **** don't work when ****** are above you. When it was him and Southeast Slim and them boys it made sense :lol

And yeah Akademiks appeals to modern hip-pop fans.

The internet is different . It gave people clout and a voice.

The word corny is overused. I don't even know what it means anymore.

People will say Jay-Z is corny. Are you supposed to be cool at 40+ with a wife and kids? Should a 40 year old want to be cool? Sometimes i think I care too much about how I dress, but that's just me. But you still won't catch me in ripped fitted biker jeans trying to look 18.

Is Kanye corny now? Because Kanye has been corny to me for a decade ever since he took off the Polo and Jordan's and got with Kim K. But he's still pushing influence, more so.

Same with A$ap Rocky. It doesn't matter if you look like you shopped as a thrift store as long as it's name brand, foreign and expensive?

I shrug at all of this stuff now.

Lil Uzi, Young Thug and Yachty are what's cool in 2017?

I don't agree at all. Nothing about Wale screams 90s to me. He reminds me of rappers today but just the old head that ain't cool.

It just shouldnt be daily

I aint know this was daily til recently
I think that's why it's called "Everyday Struggle"

In a perfect world...they'd have guests lined up for slow news days...but it's impossible to know when it's going to be a slow news day. Maybe they could have regular guest reporters kinda like First Take has Ryan Clark on the show all the time. They're in New York and it's Complex. It can't be too hard to line up guests.

another thing is i never understood why dc doesn't stand behind wale like that...when i first started really hanging out in dc around 2006 thats around the time wale started getting big locally..if i remember correctly everyone was messin with him from the songs breakdown and uptown roamers then when i left and came back in 09 ppl didn't mess with him no more

Crab in a bucket city to the fullest. Plus, you always hear ***** say he isn't "really" from DC. Wale just ain't th dude they want to represent them on a Natl level.

Dc don't even support Shy Glizzy. Hell, he gets more love in 45 minutes up the road my city that in DC :lol.

A lot of heads didn't like how he left Studio43 and that whole clique behind, plus him dropping the "urrea" sound to go mainstream and adding Gaga on the radio version of Chillin to get a lil boost.

And then the whole "he not even really from DC" thing lol

Add in the salty aspect of the DMV and the rest is history.

DMV is full of haters, that d-ride anyone that gets on at first

Real 'crab in the bucket' mentality here

DC isn't some monolithic city. There are different types of listeners in the city who support the various local artists to a degree. If Wale does a show at 9:30 club...it will sell out. He has plenty of fans here. He also has plenty of people who don't like him. The young kids love Shy Glizzy...but there are also young kids that might be from a "rival hood" that don't. Hence why there were 10 different Shy Glizzy diss songs from local artists when he started to bubble. There are plenty of kids in the area that will sell out a Goldlink show....there are also plenty of kids in DC that never heard a Goldlink song in their life. Same with Logic.

Hip Hop is still relatively a new thing in DC. Go-Go ruled up until the 21st century.
