I think you make a lot of generalizations about these younger kids listening to rap. And based on what?
And me personally, I don't agree with the second paragraph. Obviously growing up in similar situations and environments gives you a different appreciation because you can relate to it, but you don't have to share the same experiences to understand the meanings behind an artists message.
While we're on Tory Lanez. Now I didn't like his album, and I didn't grow up in the same environment as he did and all that but I understood what he was talking about. I liked that he had a story to tell. Honestly, that's what made me listen to his album more than once although I didn't care for it. The problem for me was the execution. For one, he excels at singing, he's an average rapper to me. The best songs for me were his singles. There were instances in which he sounded like other rappers straight up. At one point I felt as if I could be listening to Drake, and there was one track in which it felt evident he was trying his best impression of what Kendrick did on GKMC.
