Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Its gonna take a Sonny or Metro getting shafted before *****s really consider a union or a strike.

When I said “you no longer can”, part of that is also artists etc. building themselves into a position where they can’t really be exploited anymore.

Though there are traps everywhere, guys like Sonny and Metro are established, should have strong management and legal to the point where this shouldn’t happen anymore.

Outside of whatever **** deals they might have gotten locked into early, they should be good now.

****** up **** is the guys that get you when you’re in their position are the ones that are closest to you. Your manager, accountant etc.

But before that the industry will definitely prey on your ignorance, lack of resources etc.

Sonny digital has had his issues over the years too. He's spoken out about producer not getting their proper stuff

i remember seeing this a long time ago and oschinos point was valid as hell.

Sonny has had a few humbling moments himself. I think Mike Dean or somebody ended up taking his tag out of 2chainz - Birthday Song when he sent the track outs (which hurts on a big placement like that) so he called himself going up to nyc to be in the video and they basically cut all the parts of him in the video out too :smh:

He's always had strong opinions about producers building identities/brands and getting their just do considering they're obviously a big part of these hits. I don't think Metro is "Metro" if he doesn't move in Sonny house and get taught everything about how to be a better producer, maneuver in the game, brand yourself etc. **** he had already been dealing with since Racks

Metro seems like he knows how to “play the game” better than Sonny which is why Sonny has never had that “moment” of being the it guy even tho he consistently been having hits since Racks smh.

I remember seeing a video of Sonny slapping plaques off the wall at Universal because he got shafted on a pub deal or something.

I cant find the video but I know I aint imagine that ****.

This is about to be a heavy reach....... I think Metros producer tags gave him a lil more clout.

"If young metro don't don't trust you Ima shoot you"

"Metro boomin want some more *****"

i hope he comes outta nowhere with cornrows.

look at his face. he trolling so hard knowing he can look any type of way and nobody can really say **** because look at his woman

Jay be in the crib with the clippers just trying to even it out himself or something. :lol

I ain't mad, just confused.

that **** look goofy but he would look even goofier with a temp fade or some ****.

That’s how it always goes tho. Your big bro give you the game and hopefully you don’t make the same mistakes he did.

Sonny first MAJOR **** up was he didn’t tag the Racks beat off laziness, computer ******* up etc. He just gave them _’s the beat, wasnt expecting that **** to hit like that.

Then w Same Damn Time he lost the OG beat or something, had to remake it and the engineer ****** up his tag

His tag a lot more prominent in the original but that’s not the one that was on the album, radio etc

Then the Birthday Song ****, just a lot of mistakes. Some he had control over some he didn’t.

how do you reccomend protecting yourself

Hard to answer because there's different things to protect yourself from, every artists situation will be different.

Going to sound pretty basic but, the more you know, the better off you'll be.

I used to be baffled at how many artists complained about getting gaffled for their publishing....

Considering how many artists have already openly talked about getting gaffled for their publishing.

But again, people in power will use your lack of experience and resources against you.

So if you don't know the drill (splits/shares, admin vs. co-pub deal etc.), and you can't afford YOUR OWN lawyer to go through your paperwork, and you're entering into some kind of business arrangement, you stand a good chance of getting got for less than you should.

But I guess the alternative is you don't do the deal and hold out for a better one. Some people have that luxury and others may not and may jump on whatever advance is put in front of them even though the long term money is likely MUCH longer. Then they'll go public with it but they're already locked in.
