X was the first superstar after Pac & Big huh?
Puff????Puff, Hov and X. They tried to put X in the Pac slot early on, because he embodied that familiar conviction, vulnerability & sex appeal for the ladies, and passion, but instead of filling a void, the dog dug his own hole. His rise was ridiculous.
Puff????
Naw ..... you tripping ....
DMX and Jay .....
X was even doing movies ....
Drugs did him then and now.
Bad Boys ... not Puffy ....Yes. How soon we forget...He was pushing a really strong Bad Boy movement after BIG's death. That cut right in to Roc-A-Fella and Def Jam's waves.
Bad Boys ... not Puffy ....
Mack
Mase
Faith
Lil Kim
112
Black Rob
Shyne
Are you not reading the question ....And who was over all of that, dancing all in the videos, on the magazine covers, cutting the small checks, overseeing the production, the face of the entire movement? Puff, Puff Daddy, P-Diddy, Diddy, whatever he was going by those days.
Are you not reading the question ....
But lets put it like this, besides Lik Kim none of thrn bums made anything that out up numbers ....
If anything you had weat coast and south rap making a major move.
Snoop
Juvenile
Hotboys
Outcast
But to say superstars....
No one like Jay Z and DMX ....
However things were so close that we can start putting a bunch of names from Ja, to Lil Wayne to Eminem etc.
Puff was no major star ...
98 was the biggest year of puffs careerAre you not reading the question ....

R
Him and Jay
DMX's run from 98-03' with 5 #1 albums and doing movies is truly untouchable (Year of the Dog was #2 and his was clearly on the decline at that point). RIP to one of the best to ever do it, guys energy was unreal. Just wish I'd have gotten to see him once live.Id argue that run he had was and will be unmatched.
Music, movies... he was THAT guy
X was a superstar years before Jay was. Out here in Cali people weren't really messing with Jay like that until Blueprint-ish era. X was ALWAYS a huge star here, local radio played the **** out of him from the start.
Dudes here pulling up singles data and trying to elevated Puff is crazy to me. Thats not to say he didn't do a lot for the industry and perhaps all his SOLO albums were banging in NYC ... but outside of featurea or Collabs or getting on getting on videos ... i dont know.DMX's run from 98-03' with 5 #1 albums and doing movies is truly untouchable (Year of the Dog was #2 and his was clearly on the decline at that point).
