Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Reebok fumbled by not fully capitalizing long term on the A.I. signature line , having Hov + 50 and their retro catalog.

I just thought Wayne being a Jay Z fan, paid some homage. But I had no clue Jigga actually dropped a mixtape like this in 2003 . I’m just noticing on the cover art, the Reebok sign. 😳

You know, I never knew this.

Wayne had a mixtape series called the W. Carter Collections (one of his best, and underrated…but it was random songs that were on multiple tapes)

Suck it or not, was on there ironically enough. Crazy, cuz somebody just posted Wayne & Cam performing it in 2023, like yesterday lol

Yet some folks keep saying the south don't listen to Hov.

Yet some folks keep saying the south don't listen to Hov.

That ain’t ever been true on a large scale…. But Even Wayne wasn’t UP, UP on Hov until Vol 3.

And this is Wayne as a seasoned young rapper in 99, having already went on tour with Jay, and Juve collab. Even his homies & Labelmates said Wayne being a big Jay Z fan at the time, was unique and out the norm of what they were used to in NO

Wayne then strategically followed “the blueprint”. Almost to a tee. And then almost singed with Hov. Jay Z, was big everywhere . Just some regions never held him in the same light as NY did…but he always been a big dawg, and got luv everywhere out the gate. I think them cats from the south just biting back, and letting it loudly be known as they get more voices in media…that other local/regional rap acts (not known to the national media) held weight and influence too. Even more than the biggest rapper at the time. Even those NYC cats said the same, once they got out their bubble and seen how ******s was moving independently etc, outside the labels ecosystem up top. Hov included. Why HA & Big Pimping were so important.

Most people had zero clue that Destiny’s Child was opening for Cash Money, while Hov was dropping his debut.

Both things can be true.

Jeezy, Ross and Tip was also influenced by Hov. Then Future and Dolph would always big him up "I'm the Jigga in my city" "FBG we the new Rocafella". Of course it ain't gon be the same love as his own city but it's just funny when people say that while the biggest and best from the south are big Hov fans. Yo Gotti soaked up a lot being around him too.

Anybody that was rapping from 96 on, was influenced by Jay Z. It’s Jay Z. He’s one of the guys. That goes without saying.

I think people just reacting to what they thought was global. Ignore what Big Gipp and them types be saying for clickbait. The truth is in the middle.

So between jays drug dealing past supposedly bein made up, the illumanati ****, and other regions not listening to him, the thing to do when you personally dont rock with dude is just to make some **** up.

Problem is, lies get traction these days.

Swizz made On to the Next One and Murder to Excellence. Gotta give him some credit.

Also like the Jason beat for Jadakiss.
He did i get high for styles too.

Dude has made some dope beats over the years, most of em are album cuts tho.

He’s gotta have some 🔥 in the tuck. Problem is his trademark sound is terrible.

His best beats dont even sound like him tbh.

Yeah it's weird when people say, well he was never 50, Nelly or Em with sales.

Nobody was 50, Nelly or Em with sales. It's a crazy move of the goal post. I totally tune out your argument.

Did he do them, or did he do pieces of them?

He's done a lot of voice work and co-production.

and that would be a sub mendoza level, because he's done work over the past decade.

Swizz Really Maybe The Wackest "Legendary" Producer Of All Time.

I Mean His Production Is Comically Bad At Times

Just A Bunch Of Sounds Together That Dont Make Sense.

I realized when he went against Just.

It's like he has a lot of hits, but that's mainly also because who he's worked with

but he has a whole lot of misses. Most producers I might go this is all right, just not a go to. Swizz has a lot of skips for me. More for me than the other notable producers. Like straight up songs and beats I think are trash.

Easy Moe Bee was like that for me also.

I guess he co produced all of those lol. Never knew.

The older I get (and the more my concept of time has changed), the more I realize just how much Pac did and influenced in what…4 to 5 years of his career? 91/92 to 96. And was acting too. It’s understood his work ethic and talent was prolific, but his output and influence is on another level.

By 98/99, *****s was trying to rap/be like Pac. And it seemed like he’d been dead for a long time (especially as a kid, where a year seems forever), but it really had been only like a year and some change. A Very short time. By the early 2000s, 2pac was getting lumped in with “old school” to my generation sometimes. A the reality was, he was a current rapper, ahead of his time who was murdered young.

The whole death row **** with him, was what…like a year tops?. Yet, look at how much industry, and hundreds of millions of dollars has been created from that timeframe alone. Crazy
Yeah, it's hard to equate time now, because of social media and everything is instantaneous. You expect a reply and everything immediately. Pac's run could fit in between Damn and Mr Morale. It would seem longer today, because you would have him going back and forth on IG Live and putting out songs immediately.

That's why when people attack Pac's actions, I've grown to give him more of a break and be less judgemental. Because he was 22, 23, 25, trying to figure it out. I was angry at him for a long time, because I always felt he was doing too much and caused his own demise unnecessarily.

but wouldn't Pac be considered what's now old school in the 2000's though?

It's the same as the 80's being considered old school in the 90's.

I wish it would get to a point where it's like R&B. Where you just consider Michael Jackson, Michael, Prince, Prince or Luther, Luther.

Why bruh got khakis on, standing like that 🤦🏾‍♂️😩.

He look like a bad middle schooler or something :lol.

If there is one thing to be critical about Jay Z….it’s his influence RIGHT HERE. Cozying up, idolizing and looking up to white Billionaires.

Hey! Capitalism is a religion. Get your money, but this is always going to look crazy, and people are going to be rightfully critical.
