I was bumping The Carter 1 for the first time in a while over the weekend (I remember you said you never listened to a Wayne album ) and it's still a good album but not nothing crazy. Some good songs then some sound real dated and some filler.

Wayne was nice on it but not no f'n all time great like he hardcore fans claim. At times Wayne does ramble about nothing. The best thing is his delivery, Gillie helped him A LOT. BMJR and Miss My Dawgs (because I was a CMB fan since 97) are like the only songs that really stand out.

Gillie/Philly inspired Wayne is his apex hands down. He always had the charisma and mic presence but that lil extra inspiration (and possible references ) filled it out

Looking back it really was a interesting mix of east coast and down south sensibilities

Post-Carter 2 Wayne (when he started going away from that style) is basically a caricature , outside of random bright spots like No Ceilings etc
