Real Question about Black, White, Asian, and Hispanic money::: Flame-suit on:::

I only read OP's post but imma go back and read some of these comments cuz I wanna know too...

as a black male who considers himself to be pretty mature...I gotta say that if our culture made extreme improvements in how we defined ourselves amongst each other we would be so much better off.

not even on a becoming equally viewed as how white people or other races are viewed but just on some improving the quality of life for our children and our children's children type steez.

I have always wonder why other races gravitate toward braces for their teeth and their children's but blacks gravitate toward chrome rims...i wanted to conduct a study on this one time

If you look in just about every metro area in the United States I'm sure you will find suburbs that are deemed "new money" v. "old money." Old Money 'burbs where the real wealthy tend to live are usually mature suburbs, lots of trees, sidewalks, traditional town centers, etc. "new money" towns, while still having money, are more of the McMansion type.

It's basically a flashy v. non-flash type of thing. Some flaunt others don't. People who've been around money for a long time don't need to flaunt. People who haven't tend to flaunt.

Either way you still got money. If you wanna flaunt, by all means, flaunt.

before i get on you... do you think people with old money are better than people with new money?
now remember before you answer, that there are no ethnicities in the USA with old money.

please answer the ? though.
Don't bring race into what I just said.

I've been to a political fundraiser for a US Senator and there were over 300 individuals there, in an old money town. 200-250 were African American. And by the checks they were writing, schools they attended, the way they were dressed and the way they presented themselves, you better believe that all 200 of those African Americans fit my defintion of "old money."

but how old can african-american money be, really?

maybe its because most black people have straight teeth and don't need the braces

see my last post.

braces are utility. you arent constantly reminded how poor you are by every image you see everyday for your entire life, braces are a utility to cop. Nobody is showing off the fact that your daughter got braces, HOWEVER, if your child DIDNT have braces, best believe there would be a stigma behind it (you see her daughter needs braces and they wont get them?!?!? tsk tsk)

whereas, a black family living in the slums....their house, their clothes, their neighborhood, their neighbors, their friends, their music, their jobs, their schools, their parks.....practically everything about them is a reminder of their poverty...

so copping that 500 dollar butter soft avirex, and sliding your arms into it, feeling it on your skin, holding up its weight with your body, everyone staring and giving you props on it....these are subtle and ATTAINABLE ways to, even for a moment, take your mind off of constantly being reminded how poor you are...

a pair of jordans to you and me isn't nearly as important to a section 8 child who changes off shirts with his brother so they dont have to wear the same shirt 2x in a week....

im broke, but im not bombarded nonstop with reminders of how broke i am...

well, maybe i am, but its not the same level of project child, you know?

.....that damn hiphop. kinda like older black folks that swear the "stop snitching" mentality was birthed by hiphop a few years ago. as if keeping your mouth shut, and not cooperating with authorities hasnt been going on way before then.

- black people have been messing up and wasting money on flashy items for far longer than hiphop has even existed. get a clue bruh.

very good answer...but that doesnt take away from the fact that things like braces and general health upkeep get neglected in our communities but i mean going through things like that in the projects would make dental, health, issues seem trivial I suppose.
and to the guy saying most black people have straight teeth...i know u were joking, good one...hell do most anybody have straight teeth?...when i was once naive I thought all white people did

and another thing to make note of I guess is that a grip of blacks will never have any interaction with other races their entire life and unless its in the exchange of goods and services so adopting any other philosophies on money spending may be unattainable or unappealing...which I guess makes it ok to continue on the same trek

i mean, basically.

nobody in the hood says "oh, you got your daughter braces? look at you, baller...she looking clean!"

but youll get madd props on them rims....and somehow be "less" poor than the people you share a neighborhood with...

and everyday you get in and out of it, or everytime the newest rat compliments how clean you are, you forget that you live in a shack and your mother's lights are off....

even poor people dont want to LOOK poor....and clothing/shoes/phones/electronics/rims are basically the only luxury items that are realistically attainable to that population....so of course they're going to keep these things around them....its the only way they can distract their mind from the reality they're in.

same time, the kid who's dad holds 29 million.....why would he care if he "looked" poor? i.e. beat up vans, dingy white t with holes 97 saab, etc.

he doesnt care, because he doesnt even THINK about money....

it's never even crossed his mind.

he knows that he wont miss a meal, and besides, who needs an expensive, flashy t shirt on when you have a private pool to kick it at?

his room and the fact that any and every need, and probably a majority of wants are fullfilled, no questions asked, not a single worry about it happening is the reason he doesnt need to "flaunt" or be 'flashy"

i mean, i got a wealthy friend....as in his father is ******ed rich. lives on the same street as micheal jordan....

dude can afford to go into 5k of credit card debt buying shoes.....because he has the security of knowing his father has millions....

its the same thing, to a lesser effect, for rich people who dont floss.....

they still have the security of knowing they're good....they're not worried about the next paycheck....

financial freedom is probably the most

Don't bring race into what I just said.

I've been to a political fundraiser for a US Senator and there were over 300 individuals there, in an old money town. 200-250 were African American. And by the checks they were writing, schools they attended, the way they were dressed and the way they presented themselves, you better believe that all 200 of those African Americans fit my defintion of "old money."

but how old can african-american money be, really?

i mean this dude PoloLax has to be a troll.
like does this dude even know what he is talking about?

the term "Old Money" SPECIFICALLY applies to your money being >4-5 generations old. 4-5 generations ago blacks were slaves and the Old Money comes from cotton, tobacco, oil, steel....

all the things Sambo and his %%!+ pals could not be a part of.

so yes its about race. this whole thing is about race cause Blacks are the only people we really talking about.

lol  your definition of old money. LMAO.

its not old money when you earned the $%!! yourself stupid.

and who is anybody to judge on how others spend their money?

wealth is subjective. how can you determine someones worth based upon what they drive or wear?

half of these old money dudes live off credit and have no liquid cash.

if your dream is to be a stuffy old man driving a 1994 jaguar xj8, living in a whatever home, living a whatever life then do you.

lol political fundrasers... lol.. for who McCain?

you in in LA Polo?
