Mans was truly hilarious while remaining smart and witty coming with cold hard facts that cut deep.

My dad really pissed Paul Mooney off one time. We were at Hollywood Park Casino betting on the horse races. My dad took way too long to place his bet and Mooney’s time ran out before he got his chance. “****. THIS MOTHER****ER TOOK FOREVER. **** MAN” as he walked back to his table crumpling up his money.

I said “dad, do you know who that was? He’s a famous comedian” Dad said “I don’t care who he was. All I know is he was too late. We should have Chinese across the street when this race is over. I’m hungry”. I wanted Mooney’s autograph and my dad messed that up

I regret never having seen him live before. I remember he did a show at BB Kings a few years ago and I was trying to make it happen but it fell through. I’ve shown support in other ways- I bought Analyzing White America and Jesus Was Black... on DVD. I bought copies of his book, Black Is The New White, for myself and my father. Mooney was a legend. Even if people didn’t like him personally, he inspired comics that they liked. I know he was sick the past few years, it really started from that TV appearance he made where he really looked out of it. And then Pierre confirmed that he had dementia. Then the sex allegations. The way things ended for him weren’t ideal but he left his mark and he was definitely one of my favorite comedians.

With all this political correctness and not being able to talk about or make jokes about people of any race creed nationality in a funny but truthful way their will never be another comic like Paul Mooney
