the news is supposed to confuse the reader by being vauge with the roles of various people they introduce into articles?
oh.
We clearly know the roles of the various people.
We have a man who allegedly tried to kill several people, that's pretty much hard evidence and can be proved a lot easier.
We have ACCUSATIONS of rape, we cant tell off hand if this is true or not.
Again, the role of news is to be BALANCED, FAIR, and TRUE. so of course they are gonna use language that is vague if they don't know the truth/whole story/outcome.
I know this didnt happen in America, but the theme to justice is usually innocent until proven guilty right?
We clearly know the roles of the various people.
the role of the kid who escaped is vague. was he just a random bystander caught in a rage? was he in fact a suspect in the rape? is he friends with the other dudes who were murdered? were these even the right people? they said "he was walking from a friends house when he was attacked" that sounds like he's innocent and had no idea why some guy was trying to attack him with a knife. of course it doesnt explicitly say that, but that is what i, someone with a brain and comprehension, took from the article....im confused as to if the guy WAS involved in the rape or not....
its understood that the guys he did actually kill WERE allegedly involved in the rape....but again, they never explicitly say that....they just never say "these guys might not even be the right guys"....
its a vague article.
A man reported to have escaped from being killed said his attacker said he was avenging the rape of his daughter.
Lamontville resident Khangelani Mdluli, 27, said the man had also said "you infected my daughter with HIV".
A teenager, Siyanda Khumalo, told South Africa's Independent newspaper that he too allegedly narrowly escaped being killed by the man.
"I heard someone walking behind me and when I turned he slowed down," Khumalo, who said he had been walking home from a friend's house about 9pm on Monday last week, told the Independent.
The man told Khumalo to stop walking, but when he sped up instead, the man allegedly threw an axe at his back.
"I tried to duck the axe, but I was hit on the back. When he tried to grab me, I ducked and ran as fast as I could," he said.
"I am so relieved that I can talk about this. If he got me, he would have killed me."
A man reported to have escaped from being killed said his attacker said he was avenging the rape of his daughter
sounds like an innocent man was accosed and attacked by a psychotic father of a rape victim, completely unaware of the rape of the man's daughter.....right?

again, this dude sounds like an innocent guy who escaped a rape-induced rage....
that isnt the most effective writing. that isnt the most clear and concise writing. not the most informative writing.
i cannot make a definitive statement from reading this article on if dude is
a.) a raging father taking justice into his own hands
OR
b.) he's just a psycho who went on a killing spree upon finding out his daughter was raped and has AIDS
ITS NOT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR ANY HUMAN BEING TO MAKE A DEFINITIVE STATEMENT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER

April 1, 2011 - 7:10AM
South African police say there is no evidence that a former rugby player arrested over three axe murders had killed his victims to avenge the gang-rape of his daughter.
Media reports said the 34-year-old man, who played in the national Vodacom and Currie Cup competitions for the Blue Bulls, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly decapitating one victim and hacking two others to death in a vengeance killing after the gang-rape and HIV infection of his daughter.
But police spokesman Vincent Mdunge on Thursday said the man, whose name has not been released pending an ID parade, did not have a daughter who had been raped.
"Rape has been ruled out," Mdunge said.
A fourth victim who said he had escaped an axe attack last week told the Cape Argus newspaper he had been confronted by a man who accused him of raping and infecting his daughter.
But Mdunge said police believed the suspect had been motivated by an "evil nature", not the rape of his child.
"The motive is evil-oriented," he said.
The suspect appeared behind closed doors in the magistrate's court in the eastern city of Durban on Thursday.
The case was postponed until April 7 for a bail hearing to be set and for the accused to undergo a medical observation.

Ex Bulls player charged for axe murders
Dries LiebenbergDurban - Joseph Ntshongwana, the 34-year-old former Blue Bulls rugby player accused of three axe murders, has a history of mental disturbance.
This emerged on Wednesday when he appeared amid tight security in court for the first time on charges of murder, attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
He was arrested at his parents’ house in Yellowwood Park, Durban, on Tuesday in connection with a spate of axe attacks over the past two weeks. One of his victims was decapitated and his head dumped in a bin.
Following earlier media reports that the killer was seeking revenge for the rape of his daughter, who was allegedly infected with HIV in the process, it emerged on Wednesday that Ntshongwana does not have a daughter.
According to informed sources, rape is not mentioned in the statement by the complainant (who survived an attack) to police. In the victim’s sworn statement, he said the attacker said: “You gave my baby girl HIV
