Fully expect (hope) Saunders and Seager to have big years next year
How has Truinfel played?
I remember his name being a big deal a couple years back
Carp a trade target
[h5]Mike Carp | Mariners[/h5]
Neither Justin Smoak nor Mike Carp has performed in 2012, but if the Seattle Mariners stick with one and part ways with the other, Smoak appears to have the leg up on staying with the M's. He's showing signs of a shorter swing and consistent production this month, which could make Carp more than expendable.
Despite his injuries and lack of performance, Carp could be a trade target for some clubs, writes Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
The Red Sox could be among those teams, as could the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians. It's a flier, and the trade cost isn't like to be very high, and Carp is likely to be cheaper than James Loney, Carlos Pena or Lyle Overbay, all of whom are set to be free agents.
Cafardo adds that the Red Sox may consider re-signing Loney and that the Rays may also 'kick the tires." Carp is not a free agent and his salary in 2013 will remain in the neighborhood of $500,000.
Smoak has definitely been helping his case in staying with the M's, dude slapped another one today...
I've been thinking about this for the past couple of days, is Felix really not on the trade market?
How would you guys feel for a swap for a legitimate young offensive player? I know Trout is definitely not touchable, but what about a Bryce Harper-type?
Could still happen?..depending on how fast Zunino gets here and seems to be on a pretty steady track, that could push someone like Jaso to play 1stInstead of another possible smoke-screen (no pun intended), I would have rather had Smoak just tank the rest of the year so they could move on. Hopefully this is it and finally pushes him over the top.

M's catching situation in 2013
[h5]Seattle Mariners[/h5]

Heading into the offseason, the Seattle Mariners have an interesting backstop situation to address for next year.
John Jaso has had a very strong season in a platoon role, writes the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker, hitting .275 with 10 homers, 50 RBIs and more walks (53) than whiffs (47) -- good for a top-notch .392 OBP and very strong .853 OPS.
Thing is, Jaso has only started 37 games behind the dish, compared to rookie Jesus Montero (53 starts) and veteran Miguel Olivo (66), which makes the three-way split a potential area to clean up this winter.
While Olivo is generally considered the best defensive option of the trio, he's also been the worst on offense in 2012 with a .218 average and .235 OBP, even if he has hit 12 homers. Montero, meanwhile, has been better with the bat (.261-15-5 but remains a work-in-progress with the glove and may need to shift to DH full-time at some point.
Another factor to consider is that the M's hold a club option for $3 million on Olivo next year. It might seem excessive for any team -- much less one in desperate need of offense -- to carry three catchers, but given the success Jaso has had in his part-time role and the defensive liabilities of Montero, it might not be a shock to see Olivo back in Seattle.
Perhaps the best-case scenario is for Seattle to re-up Olivo in a similar role for next season then trade him in July -- in the depressed catching market, Olivo would actually have some value -- by which point catching prospect Mike Zunino, the No. 3 overall pick in June's draft, might be just about ready to take over the starting job.
New CF for Seattle?
[h5]Franklin Gutierrez | Mariners[/h5]

[h5]Center Field Options[/h5]
- B.J. Upton -- Free Agent
- Denard Span -- Minnesota Twins
- Chris Young -- Arizona Diamondbacks
- Juan Pierre -- Free Agent
- Shane Victorino -- Free Agent
- Jacoby Ellsbury -- Boston Red Sox
- Michael Bourn -- Free Agent
- Angel Pagan -- Free Agent
The Seattle Mariners may feel the need to find a new centerfielder for 2013 and beyond, despite the fact that Franklin Gutierrez is under contract through 2013.
Gutierrez, who has played in just 130 games combined over the past two seasons, injured himself again Thursday crashing into the outfield wall in Anaheim. The M's removed Gutierrez from the game as a precaution, but the 29-year-old said he feels fine after experiencing some dizzy spells.
Gutierrez has suffered a concussion this season, along with heel and a pectoral injuries that delayed the start of his season. He also missed nearly half of 2011 with a stomach ailment, though that appears to be under control.
He's owed $7 million guaranteed for 2013 and the Mariners have an option on 2014 for $7.5 million, but they can exercise a buyout for a half million.
Seattle is thirsting for offense, but perhaps even more so need reliable veterans and Gutierrez doesn't fit that bill. Don't be surprised if GM Jack Zduriencik looks for a relatively inexpensive centerfielder over the offseason. One who can serve as a fourth outfielder or slide into left field should Gutierrez again grab hold of the job and fly.
I think we all areOh Guti...The guy just can't get a break...
Scary thought... "While Olivo is generally considered the best defensive option of the trio..."
I think Felix raised his ERA by 20 points last night?Good thing the Angels are out of it, I guess?
Really, I'm ready for this season to end.
