Figgins Wants Out Of Seattle
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [October 4, 2012 at 10:21am CST]
Three quarters of the way through a disappointing four-year contract, Chone Figgins wants out of Seattle. The 34-year-old utility player told John Hickey of SportsPressNW.com that he’d prefer not to play for the Mariners any longer (Twitter link).
"I can't take two more years of this," Figgins said.
Figgins' four-year, $36MM contract includes an $8MM salary in 2013 and a $9MM vesting option for 2014. He appeared in 66 games this year, posting a .181/.262/.271 batting line in 194 plate appearances. Figgins played third base and all three outfield positions, but appeared in Just four games from September on.
Forgot about the Houston move. M's might actually not finish in last next yearFor as crappy as he's been, there's no way he should be making demandsstick his *** at the end of the bench and let him rot there.
Offense actually showed signs of life this year and if they move in the fences, who knows? Even Montero said that hitting there kinda brought his whole demeanor down so we'll have to wait and see.
Great prospects and a not so crappy offense is a lot to forward to. Plus, you get to beat up on Houston a little bit next year
I won't hold my breathI have a feeling they'll make an OF splash in free agency.
Market for Drew
10:19AM ET
[h5]Stephen Drew | Athletics[/h5]

The Oakland Athletics, who have at least another week to evaluate Stephen Drew on the field, have a decision to make on the shortstop's 2013 option that would pay him $10 million. It's a mutual option that if bought out by the club would send Drew to the open market.
If that occurs, Drew would easily serve as the top free agent at his position, and a number of potential fits may surface. The A's could try to bring back Drew on a multi-year deal at a lesser average annual value, an CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman suggests via Twitter that the Detroit Tigers could make a play for Drew.
In order to do so, the Tigers would have to do one of two things. They could decline the option on shortstop Jhonny Peralta or move Miguel Cabrera to designated hitter and slide Peralta to third base.
Another potential landing spot, albeit one of the outside-the-box variety, for Drew is in Atlanta, his hometown team. He'd have to change positions -- to third base to replace the retiring Chipper Jones or to second base with incumbent Dan Uggla moving to the hot corner.
The Giants, Mariners and Red Sox could also show interest.
Kuma > Vargas
Iwakuma or Vargas?
8:14AM ET
[h5]Hisashi Iwakuma | Mariners[/h5]

Right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma finished his first season in Major League Baseball Tuesday with another strong outing and finished the year with a 2.65 ERA in 16 starts. The 31-year-old right-hander is now set up to cash in via free agency.
He was noncommittal after that start, writes MLB.com's Greg Johns, but the Seattle Mariners are almost certain to have strong interest in bringing him back. General manager Jack Zduriencik may have to choose between Iwakuma and the arbitration-eligible Jason Vargas, who could make more than $8 million next season.
The Mariners do have payroll space with which to tinker their roster, especially since Ichiro Suzuki's contract is now off the books. Despite the expectation that most of the club's financial flexibility will be spent on offense, I contend they'll trade for offense and pay to shore up the starting rotation.
Iwakuma is no slam dunk to return, however. He proved his shoulder is healthy -- one of the concerns over the past two years when he posted in 2010 and hit the open market last winter -- and his success in the states is now somewhat tangible.
The A's won the bid on him two winters ago, but don't figure to be a club with strong interest this time around as their roster is littered with young starting pitching.
