As long as there are guns and psychotic people, tragedies like this are going to occur unfortunately. The only way I see preventing events like this, is to completely outlaw guns for civilians. I highly doubt that would happen though.

As a "free" society, there are certain costs we've decided to pay.

We have a car culture, where we accept 30,000 fatalities for the benefits society reaps from the automobile.

We accept a medical system where 100,000 people will die due to misdiagnosis, incorrect medication, and illnesses caught while receiving medical care.

Guns are part of the American culture. I'm not saying there's nothing we can do to prevent mass carnage events, but I'm. It sure anything less than full out confiscation will stop mass shootings with semi auto rifles. At that point, imo, we'll be seeing open shooting in the streets

If you don't already see how keeping track of weapons in circulation and their current owners could be beneficial, there's nothing I could possibly say to help you gain perspective.

What about the guns already in the hands of responsible citizens? Do you think everyone is going to register all of their guns?

One thing to keep in mind is many gun control laws were originally designed to keep guns out of the hands of minorities. If you ban/outlaw guns, who do you think it's going to disproportionally affect?

If those gun owners are so damn responsible they'd have no problem signing up. Also I'm not proposing a ban. I'm proposing legal measures that can be taken to make it more difficult to obtain something created for the express purpose of causing great harm.

No but it's important to note that no other first world country has such a skyhigh gun per capita rate. Switzerland is the closest comparison. If you're interested I'd recommend looking into how they handle a very high gun per capita rate with great success.

You don't have to go to a gun show for the sale lol. "Gun Show Loophole" is just another name for "private sale loophole". And it's currently not required on a federal level to regulate private sales.

And the reason people focus on Assualt Rifles is their ability to kill in quick succession.

Not to mention having a handgun for personal protection makes sense, having an Assualt Rifle for protection makes zero sense. You're not Rambo.

You don't get my point. The person buying from another person in the street doesn't care about private sales. They aren't trying to make a legit sale. They're doing it illegally. They would be doing it regardless, even if it wasn't legal. That gun probably has the serial number filed off or is stolen anyway.

He could easily retort he could've protected said family member if he has a firearm his self. Both sides probably have valid points, but they don't address the larger problem at hand.

The gun issue honestly won't be resolved until it's met at it's core. It's an extension of a nation that was founded on violence and it's current culture is still entrenched with it. I honestly don't have the answers to address that, but for now it is what it is. You usually start how you finish. This country was birthed in blood and will probably drown in it.

Not to even try and make it into a conspiracy thing, but at what point do people consider the fact that these may be false flags? Not saying real people haven't died, but at least consider the source and the potential benefactors of such tragedies. This would be far from the first time the government lied and committed treason on their own people. I'm always amazed at the cognitive dissonance that comes into play when someone is betrayed personally as compared to an organization. If a person lies to you multiple times, its "eff that person I am done with them, they are shady." Yet the government could do the exact same and it's "well if we would have voted things will be different, we just need to implement this and that etc"

I'll let people form their own opinion on the statement, but what's happening is damn near a play by play rehash of what happened in Nazi Germany, push for gun control and all. Again cognitive dissonance, people will proudly cite history repeats itself yet turn a blind eye to it occurring in their life time.

Many of us are from environments where the sounds of gun shots isn't rare. Neither is people getting shot.

Many of us don't have to go to get caught to know about gun violence. So I'm not going to over react to this.
