Neighbors is a movie that's strongest domestically so it's not going to hurt ASM2 internationally. But X-Men, Godzilla, and Maleficent are all supposed to be very strong internatinally. Should be interesting how much of an overall hit ASM2 takes in the upcoming weeks.

Are there any spiderman villains that are not oversensitive butthurt nerds?
Kingpin
Jackal
Hobgoblin
Kraven
Chamelon

A good amount more but given how they're writing some of these villains, they'd probably make them butthurt if they aint nerds.

Did anybody else peep the doc ock arms at oscorp after harry was locked up and said we have everything we need there to take spiderman down? It was in the special programs room when they went to get the rhino machine

Yeah it was in the previews along with the symbiote, vulture wings, etc.

Just watched it. It's OK, it's basically as good as pretty much every other comic book movie in the sense that you just watch them to kill time

ASM2 is getting its *** kicked at the box office :lol :{

At this point, its looking likely that it will finish at around 225m domestic and 500m worldwide. At around 700m total, Sony is barely cutting a profit on this movie. Also, keep in mind that Sony SOLD all the merchandising rights, where the real money is, back to Marvel/Disney. So Sony is only seeing money on ticket and bluray sales while Disney is laughing all the way to the bank.

I can definitely see Sony selling the rights back to Marvel by the their whole spidey-universe experiment is over.

Why is 700 mil barely profit? They didn't spend 700 mil to put the film together, that's like 3 times Titanic. :lol

Do you think the movie studios take in every dollar out of the box office grosses?

The budget for the movie was probably $300m+ with advertising and everything thrown in. The general rule of thumb is a movie needs to make double the budget worldwide to break even. They still made a profit of 100m, but it's definitely not the cash cow they wanted and we can only expect all the sequels to make less money than this did.

*edit* It actually looks like I overestimated ASM2's profits
Sony is said to have spent over $200 million on TASM2 (before marketing, and either way it's a lowball estimate) and some analysts project that it will have to earn $800 million worldwide just to start turning a profit ... and at this point it's not looking good for the film to even equal the $750 million final take of its (much less expensive) predecessor.

So tell me more about how this movie is making a profit, C CP1708 :lol

What ruined the movie for me was Electro not even being able to hurt Spiderman, despite his immense power. Dude was pure energy, killing dudes with the tip of his finger, yet he couldn't hurt Spiderman.

:rolleyes

Movie sucked .. way to long 4 or more different plots going on and not one kept you interested and ..... blah

I don't know how it works. But if it costs 300 mil including marketing, pulls in 750, I don't get how that's not 450+ in profit. Where is the money going????

Why would rule of thumb be you have to double, to break even? What are the extra expenses, not involving the budget + marketing?????

Neighbors knocked ASM from the #1 spot with a 51M opening weekend.

Man the movie theaters gotta take their cut too :lol

I think in the U.S, the studios split the gross 50/50, but internationally they take in an even smaller %

I hope every comic book movie from this point on sucks **** because even when we get a film as true to comic book roots as possible like ASM2, we diss it. You guys have fun with your quicksilver named Peter in DoFP

I'm just gonna flip through some old comics. Everything is the way it's supposed to be there :lol

Spiderman will be cool with Sony. Hopefully they will make a better story in number 3. I want to see Spidey get his *** kicked and feel like he is in danger.

ASM2's budget is so high :x. To put it into perspective, TDKR's was 250, MoS's was 225, and the Avengers was 220.

DangerousG, where have you heard that you need to double the budget just to break even? Just curious.

Did the special FX not deliver though? It was a live action comic book. I'm surprised it wasn't more
