Hey Matt, can you elaborate on this? I've noticed the change in the shape of the midsoles, but what exactly did they make uniform?Originally Posted by OGfiend
af1's took a huge dive at the end of '02 beginning of '03 when nike changed all the sole molds to be one "uniform" mold (from the looks of it, the FT sample factory mold at the time) across all the factories.
before they changed everything, each of the factories had their own unique soles. i mean they are all the same basically but each one had their own different little details. i feel like a crazy af1 fanatic being able to tell you which factory certain pairs came out of just by looking at the soles before ever seeing the inside tag
as far as the quality goes, i'm generally talking about the cheapness of materials used, not to mention the shape of the uppers. they changed one thing first (the soles) and then within a couple of years the af1 morphed into an ugly, cheap looking shoe. the toebox started to get more pointy, overall they looked like they were leaning forward due to different internal plastic heel pieces, thinner less cushioned sockliners, etc. and then despite all of that, they climbed in price and started getting different tiers of quality, with gr's now being pretty much pure garbage.
i will try and get some pics up of the different older factory soles that i'm talking about, showing the details and differences between them all.
