What a weird match... with the downpour coming just as soon as Nole retired.
It was the sensible move... not worth risking the USO.

Did anyone watch that Sharapova/Jankovic match? One of the worst displays of tennis I've ever seen. The third set started with 5 straight breaks of serve and Sharapova won with 65 unforced errors and she had 11 double faults. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, Maria Sharapova is one of the most overrated tennis players I've seen in the last 14 years. The only player more overrated than her is/was Marcelo Rios. Sharapova is good but people hype her up like she's an all-time great when she isn't. She has no game plan except trying to hit the cover off the ball, her movement sucks and when she plays players that can hit as hard as she can she doesn't win. Women's tennis is pathetic right now and there is no sugar coating this crap anymore. Caro is a pusher that keeps getting exposed, the top ten is a joke, Venus should retire because she makes the same dumb mistakes she did when she was 17, Kim and Serena can't stay healthy, etc.

Pova did have a run where she could have done well and improved, but after the shoulder problems, and her serve problems, she will never be any good again. So many bad players in the Top 10.

I saw the first 2 sets of the JJ/Masha final. Messy mixed in with some catty-handbag-throwing

. Yeah Masha is overrated, mainly due to all the attention she gets from her image. But in all fairness, I think when she's on her game (serve and forehand working properly), she's really tough to beat. In fact, if someone's gonna beat Serena, it's gotta be her. Caro doesn't have the game yet (she just fired her dad and is looking at finding a new coach), while Vera's mental game is weak. The rest of the gals can, on a great day, possibly take a set off of Serena, but none have the consistency. You'd think that when Serena and Venus were injured the womens' game would improve, but now they've recovered and we're back to where we were.

I dunno. There are some intangibles with Caro... primarily with her coaching situation... she doesn't have one anymore. Her dad was her coach for the longest time, but I guess she or her team have come to the realization that she needs to be more aggressive and it's something her dad perhaps doesn't agree with. I don't expect her to have any problems in the early rounds, but she could meet Li Na in the quarters (I think) where strategy will be more important. Li beat her in the QF (or SF, I don't remember) during the Australian Open this year. Even if she does get past Li, there's still Masha and Serena, who are probably more favored to win.
