Not a great QB by any means but overnight has become an above-average QB

%+%+ outta here with your homer self, dude still sucks and you know it.  At best he is average, I don't care about what any rating says.  The reason they are 4-1 is cause of Harbaugh has nothing to do with that bum.
Have you watched any 49er games this season?
And he was forced to make plays in the 2nd half against Philly and was the reason we came back and won that game.

I hate to go at fellow 49ers fam, but we won for multiple reasons:

-Philly making mistake after mistake.
-Philly's kicker missed mid range field goals
-Alex Smith made plays
-Our defense completely shut down the Eagles in the second half
-Justin Smith's forced fumble at the end

To say Alex Smith was the reason the 49ers beat the Eagles is COMPLETELY ASININE.

not contesting this point, but their division isn't exactly tough sledding...

Spoiler [+]
2007-
Colts (13-3) - Patriots (16-0)
Jags (11-5) - Bills (7-9)
Titans (10-6) - Jets (4-12)
Texans (8-

- Dolphins (1-15)
--------------------------------
42 combined wins, all teams .500 or better compared to 28 combined wins... yeeeeeeah....

2008-
Titans (13-3) - Dolphins (11-5)
Colts (12-4) - Patriots (11-5)
Texans (8-

- Jets (9-7)
Jags (5-11) - Bills (7-9)
------------------------------
38 wins, 38 wins.

2009-
Colts (14-2) - Pats (10-6)
Texans (9-7) - Jets (9-7)
Titans (8-

- Dolphins (7-9)
Jags (7-9) - Bills (6-10)

38 wins, 32 wins.

2010-
Colts (10-6) - Pats (14-2)
Jags (8-

- Jets (11-5)
Texans (6-10) - Dolphins (7-9)
Titans (6-10) - Bills (4-12)
-------------------------------
30 wins, 36 wins!

148 wins in the the AFC South since 2007, 134 wins in the AFC East. Don't act like the AFC East is some powerhouse simply because Buffalo figured out how to play football this season, and the Jets started winning games two years ago...

And CP, what I was saying about Woodhead and Welker is that Bill knows which guys to target in free agency. Instead of spending boatloads of cash on guys, he targets the players that he knows will fit the system. Which, in my opinion, is one the of things that makes him so great.

My point is that they had to open up the play book and let him do more than let him "manage the game."

And Rodgers, @#$% that guy don't even need first round players, he makes all their picks look like first rounders anyways.

Off topic, but Ted Thompson needs some damn love as a GM, dude is brilliant.

TT for President.

For real though, the man does everything this way.  Mark Murphy brought him in not giving a @#@! if he was gonna be one of those guys that could be on TV giving soundbites about the team.  Ted gets the job done and I stopped second guessing dudes WR/TE picks a LOOOOONG time ago. Every WR on the team besides Driver is a TT guy.

Sometimes I wish he'd keep certain guys (Cullen Jenkin, Corey Williams...) from leaving in FA but it is what it is.  Coach em up Dom and Mike.

Dont get me wrong, I have loved what I have seen out of Alex this year (and I have always been one of his biggest critics).  But it is still early.  Alex has played very well in 1.5 out of our 5 games.  The rest of the time, he played average, game manager type quarterback.

I hope he continues to develop and make strides in his game.  But lets please not crown this guy yet.

This. I would have liked to see what we would be like if we had gotten Desean Jackson instead of Jordy but every game I watch Jordy I think more and more that he actually was the better pick. I just dont see Jackson being as productive as he is with the Eagles in the Packers offense as Jordy. Obviously we know why TT really didnt pick Desean though..
On the radio in Milwaukee they were talking to Jordy and they asked him if he's ever been caught from behind. He said never in his life

Only knock I got on him is his lack of leadership. I understand the frustrations associated with bad blockin and missed catches, but it looked like he completely seperated himself from his offensive teams, especially the offensive line. Something that would make Cutler great would be not to turn his back on a struggling line, but to demonstrate composure and help fix the problem instead of sharing is body language that suggests disgust and hopelessness. Even show some fire, but don't shut yourself off to them. Big reason why I love and hate Cutler at the same time.

I said these exact words last night and all the Bears fans blasted me saying I didnt know what I was talking about
laugh.gif

Cutler doesnt show toughness? He takes a BEATING.

He really showed me something me on MNF. Having the ability to make plays when his line was playing as bad as it did was impressive.

What the @+%! are you talking about? Please, reread that. It is actually a direct correlation with me saying Cutler is tough.

From what Fraij said, I piggybacked and said most Bears fans think that the measure of a true leader is all about toughness and there are no other requirements, when in fact toughness is just a part.

C'mon, man.

It's cool.

Does anyone think Colt is going to progress into Cleveland's franchise guy? It seems like the magice surrounded him has worn off. The rest of this season will go a long way in the Browns finding out, I think.

Colt can play, but he's now in a West Coast offense which requires a lot of skill, timing, & discipline. It also requires very smart football players. For instance WRs have to run precise timed routes & be at specific points to catch the ball. I'm not sure Cleveland has the playmakers to run this to it's fullest potential yet.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Chicago won't pursue a big time WR to pair with Cutler. Hell, go and trade for B-Marsh. Briggs for Marshall straight up.

I think Lovie is going to be the fall guy for the Bears (which is a shame), but really Jerry Angelo needs to be fired ASAP. I wouldn't even let him manage a lemonade stand...

Why is Phillip Rivers so bad this year?

How big of a savage is Matty Ryan? I thought his knee & ankle were shredded after that play.

- Carson. No need to panic yet for the Raiders. His performance was almost expected. It will be better.

- Christian Ponder Impressed me a lot. Moves so well inside and outside of the pocket. Delivers the ball with nice touch and showed very good accuracy at times. Excited to see this guy progress. I think Minnesota answered their franchise Q question.

Tony Romo is so much more effective with a running back to lighten the load. Tony especially, is less volatile knowing he doesn't have to make all the plays for his team to win. Murray could be catalyst for big Cowboy season. Even though it was against the Rams, I see Romo settling from here on out and leading the 'Boys to a divsion title.

Charlie Whitehurst is garbage. I stamped it official a long time ago, but people in Seattle didn't understand. Now, I hope they do. Get healthy Tarvaris.

Colt McCoy has hit a plateau. He isn't improving at the rate he needs to. Wouldn't be surprised if the Browns got in on this QB heavy draft and find someone to challenge Colt for that job.

I got more, but I'll save it all for my mid-season write-ups on all the current starting QB's.

Phil Rivers is killin me man.

I've always liked this guy and for some reason he is flat out OFF this year.  I don't know if it was the lockout or o-line or what his deal is, but he is not the guy I watched last year or before.

I watched almost all of yesterdays game and caught a few of their other games this year... I don't think you can blame the OL... Hes just slumping really badly.  Bad decisions, bad throws.

It took me a long time to get on the Rivers wagon and right when I do he *#%$+@! tanks.

He's been a joke so far.  Its amazing our record is what it is.  I feel lucky that our competition is Oakland, otherwise I would feel like we are in trouble.

Rivers needs to step it up.  Bigtime.

At some point in here, I want to go thru the past 25-30 games or so of Rodgers run.  Every game, playoff, regular etc.  And just marvel at the run he is on.

If you want to put it together you can, you probably have the info I want readily available, but if not I will get to it at some point in here.

The start in my mind is the playoff game vs Arizona, but it may even be a couple of games before that too.  It's why I need to go back and double check it all.

In his last 18 games: passing yardage in the low 5000s, probably close to a 70% completion rating, 45 touchdowns to seven interceptions and five rushing touchdowns.

Quick count.
