Cavs pursuing a Waiters for Koufos swap

Sources say that the Cavs are well aware landing a quality big man likely depends on selling on potential trade partners to take back polarizing shooting guard Dion Waiters. Cleveland rates Waiters' talent highly, but sources maintain that the Cavs have let a number of teams know they are prepared to surrender him if they can acquire a difference-making center in return.

And Koufos, regarded as one of the league's more underrated interior defenders thanks to the limited minutes he gets behind Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, would certainly qualify.

How willing the Grizzlies are to part with Koufos, meanwhile, remains to be seen.

It's naturally hard to see it at this early juncture no matter how blessed Memphis is with frontcourt depth. When you rip through the first quarter of the season at 16-4, there isn't much incentive to change anything.

Stay tuned, though. There are some significant differences between Koufos' standing with Memphis and the Cavs' long-running but ultimately unsuccessful attempts to convince the Denver Nuggets to bite on a Waiters-for-Timofey Mozgov swap.

In Denver, Mozgov is under contract next season on a highly favorable team option valued at $4.95 million. The Nuggets can't be faulted for wanting to keep a productive big man at that price for themselves when they know Mozgov can't bolt this summer. Koufos, by contrast, is an unrestricted free agent next summer whose camp, sources say, has made it known to Grizzlies management that it's less than pleased with the limited role carved out for the 7-footer over the last two seasons.

Interesting.

I've been on the trade Koufos bandwagon for a while. Memphis will more than likely let him walk via free agency and we currently have 4 productive bigs (Zbo, Gasol, Leuer, Koufos). I think every team really only needs 3. I'm not sure on Waiters, though. I really don't see where he fits in on the team with there already being a logjam at the guard spot.

I'm assuming a rotation of:

Lee / Waiters / Pondexter
Allen / Carter / Prince

But, Waiters just doesn't fit with what we are trying to do. Memphis needs a 3D SF, not a 24% 3 point shooting combo guard :lol

Waiters will tank the Grizz season

grizz would bury waiters on the bench bruh. no way he fits in their system. They're one of those 1000 piece puzzles and he's a screw off the bottom of a hot wheels car.

I think TA would give Waiters one of those OJ black eyes if he started to get crazy. :lol

Memphis has way too many veterans around for Waiters to mess the chemistry up. I just don't know if I trust him enough as our 2nd perimeter scorer as much as Memphis needs one.

Damn, Cleveland goofed with that Bogans' nonguaranteed deal and is stuck with considering Koufas. :x

Anyone who says CP3 is a top 5 all time PG doesn't watch basketball or has 0 value for wins and loses. CP3 isn't even better than Marc Jackson yet. Dude is 4 or 5 all time in assist and has played in the finals. Tell Paul to reach the finals then we can talk.
Mark Jackson?

Yeah. Better than Paul. I can't think of another PG that gets more praise for ALWAYS coming up short. In NO his team was the excuse. Now he has the team and his supporters will still give him a pass. Meanwhile a PG like Tony Parker doesn't get half the praise he should. 4 time champ and finals MVP. Nothing CP does from this point forward means a thing unless he reaches the Finals for once.

Just wanted to thank you for the laughs.
