Warriors' Bogut expected to be out until January
By Diamond Leung
OAKLAND -- Warriors center Andrew Bogut underwent platelet-rich plasma therapy on his injured right knee Wednesday and is expected to miss "the next couple of weeks," according to coach Steve Kerr.
Bogut's agent, David Bauman, expressed relief Thursday that the bone stress issue resulting in the inflammation in Bogut's knee is treatable while also wondering if the 7-footer might have returned earlier had the team not initially diagnosed the condition as tendinitis.
Bogut, walking gingerly around the locker room, declined to comment before missing a fifth straight game, with Festus Ezeli starting in his place against Oklahoma City. Bauman compared the Bogut situation to that of Houston's Dwight Howard, who missed a little more than three weeks after receiving platelet-rich plasma therapy on his strained right knee.
"Thank God it's nothing major," said Bauman, whose Relativity Sports agency also represents Howard. "It's a temporary setback.
"I'm not going to say two, three, four weeks, but that's probably a reasonable assumption if all goes well, and then he'll return sometime in January."
Ten days after reporting Bogut had tendinitis, the Warriors announced he elected to receive an injection to address the chondromalacia and bone edema that caused swelling and instability. The team reported that Bogut consulted its medical staff and his personal physician from Australia.
Bogut had the knee drained earlier in the week and at one point was upgraded to doubtful for the game at Memphis on Tuesday. But before missing his fourth straight contest, Bogut said the knee was "giving out" and added he was no longer sure of the original diagnosis.
Bauman said it is clear to him now that if Bogut had known about the knee condition last week, he might have been able to return to action earlier. The platelet-rich plasma injection came after another re-evaluation after Bogut went on the recent three-game trip in hopes of playing.
According to the Warriors, an MRI exam conducted Dec. 10 -- two days after the knee forced Bogut to leave the Minnesota game in the first quarter -- revealed chondromalacia and bone edema. Bauman said a further look was taken at the MRI as Bogut experienced discomfort while unable to play on the trip.
"Hindsight's always 20-20," Bauman said. "The team will address its protocol and will try to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Warriors general manager Bob Myers declined further comment at the team's practice facility while referring to his statement on Bogut.
"We fully support Andrew in his decision to undergo the PRP treatment," Myers said in the statement. "Our number one concern is that Andrew is 100 percent healthy, and we will continue to support him in any way to make that happen."
Bauman said it was reasonable to conclude that the Warriors in about a week would re-examine the knee to see how it responded to the treatment. At that point, the team could continue to rest Bogut or have him receive another platelet-rich plasma injection.
"It just depends how the swelling is, how the discomfort is and whether the knee has regained its mobility and strength," Bauman said, adding that it was more important to have Bogut healthy for April, May and June rather than rush a return.
Bogut averaged 7.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks, playing a key role in the Warriors' best start in franchise history.
Bogut, who turned 30 three weeks ago, missed the playoffs along with 14 regular season games last season because various injuries. Previously, he underwent elbow and ankle surgeries.
Seems about right.
shut yo hating *** up.. i can taste the salt emitting off your postRose is somewhat healthy, Gasol is playing well and Jimmy Butler has become a much better scorer an player. Great. Now the Bulls will have no excuse when WAS, TOR or ATL smash them in the playoffs.
Jimmy lead Bulls struggled to beat NY without Melo yet they're a shoe in to make the Finals. Smh

Funny. I still have jars of Bulls fans tears from last year. You remember the "we can't score" river of tears shed last season and how the defensive player of the year got punished in the paint. Why would I hate when the Bulls are looking up at us in the standings. Lol
KD destroying his ankle doesn't help
30 game win streak doe
But that's the thing though, things like that happen in the NBA which is why you don't make no dumbass prediction such as that one
I love the "they barely beat or lost to so and so with so and so not playing" argument to manipulate how good a team is or isn't....
it's a marathon man....
No team was playing better than okc when russ & kd got back
They still winning it all
Can't believe Danny really pulled the trigger on Rajon.... I am irate! Marcus Smart isn't even healthy! At least wait till' Marcus is healthy to pull the trigger. Oh man, Boston is going to be Philadelphia bad. We really coulda' made 8th seed in the East this year. I... I can't believe this.
Rajon had some stellar years in Boston. Danny jus' made Dallas a 6th seed at the very least. I wish there was someway to rescind the trade. Get rid of Phil Pressey and Vitor Faveroni. Brandon Bass is probably next to go... And Gerald and Jeff Green. Boston is really cleaning house...
celtics should have kept rondo to make a playoff push
No trophy for that, man.
I'm sad to see him go on a personal level but they're rebuilding.
What does that do for a team that needs to rebuild? Put pride aside tanking is in your best interest. Now whether or not he could've gotten a better deal, idk.
Gotta get something for him or get nothing in return when he leaves this summer. He was leaving Boston 100% this summer.
Kenny: What are you a republican?
Grant: Very liberal, very liberal.
