Alvin Gentry pulled a Mike Woodson in 2009-2010 and just re-implemented everything D'Antoni had done prior to the Terry Porter debacle. He also had a healthy Nash and STAT for a full season. Really only his successful year in coaching. Then lands in GS with the highest powered offense again as an assistant. You could do worse but I also don't know how he's circled back as a hot name and not just a re-tread hire.

Never got all this hype and praise behind Gentry myself.

1. I don't think it's fair to discount the value of having a coach who is smart enough to know what works and not go away from it out of arrogance or pride. I think that's one of the most important qualities you can have.

2. They were top 10 in offence every year, except the post Nash year. He also managed to squeeze great offence around Nash and a thin roster and seriously one dimensional pieces in a difficult western conference.

I think it's hard to deny dudes cred as an offensive coach, he is smart and most importantly not rigidly married to a system.

and if you pair him with a strong defensive assistant....i'm really bullish on his chances for sucess.

I'm not discrediting it, it just didn't take a lot of foresight to do it when he was on the staff the entire era.

That's a pretty big caveat.

I get the appeal of having a credible and by all accounts awesome guy to help keep AD put though.

that post nash year the roster was a dumpster fire when your front office thinks signing Michael Beasley to a multi year deal is the answer then you have bigger problems then the coaching.

To me there are two different types of retreads.

1. The guys who have actual proven skills that have been able to repeat multiple times with different rosters.

Scott Skiles, Alvin Gentry, Stan Van Gundy.

2. Guys who get head coaching jobs basically because they have had head coaching jobs in the past.

Mo Cheeks, Flip Saunders,

To me Skiles is a retread. Never really won anything, has pissed off his players. I just wasn't familiar enough with Gentry to gauge an opinion. Interested to see how the Pels look.

Scott Skiles is a sub .500 pro coach who looks like a cop. He belongs at some military academy. Glad this will be his last shot at the NBA.

How do you have ONE 50 win team in your entire conference? I didn't even know that was possible. I'm astonished the west has been dominating this long.

I like the idea of splitting the league up by region, but clearly it hasn't worked in a very long time. Top 16 teams league wide should be the system. Problem is, location. Teams potentially having to travel coast to coast for four straight rounds.

Miami better pay D Wade what he's worth
Which is.....

I think Riley plotting to not pay this guy because that would be foolish tbh. Probably has about 2 years (optimistic) of productiveness at what Wade is asking for. I feel like Riles aint gonna give Wade a Kobe sque deal because of Wade's loyalty

"Take a pay cut."

Literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life.
