Yea that’s the one, didn’t see myself. There was so many ppl there it was crazy. Never been a part of something like that.

There was a local race in SF that I tried shooting but only got like 2 shots. Pretty neat to see even though I thought it was going to look like the TDF but everyone was not in a pack like a Peloton. So I actually had to merge like 3-4 photos in a single photo to look like there was a tons of riders there.

Bike mechanics out there. I have a square taper bottom bracket seized on the driver side.
I was able to get the cup side out but can’t make the drive did budge. I know it’s reverse threaded.
Going to grab a cheater bar tomorrow but wanted to see other suggestions? I want to reuse and reduce any possible damage it possible.

A longer lever should do it - sometimes pouring boiling water over the BB shell helps too - the outside expands a little and can help.

Yea was thinking heating it as a last resort. I will go grab a bigger breaker bar and hopefully it budges. Used bike, and I have been pulling every single bolt out to grease it. Not a single ounce of grease was used on this bike.

Yea I have been using grease in place. But I should get anti-seize. I think I will for the BB. I have just been lazy and using the grease I have here.

Spray some penetrating fluid on the threads and let it sit for a few minutes. I had to do that when removing the lockring and cog from my old wheelset.

Yea might have to do that. Do you guys know if the cartridge bearings/BB will be re-usable? Or will it be toast? I am mainly doing it to do a deep clean. So much dirt and grime in there.

If not, I will plan on buying a new BB

Hard to tell - with all that effort though the BB itself is probably really cheap so I'd replace it - but if it feels smooth just clean it up and put it back in (with grease/anti-seize!) knowing that when it comes time to change it should be easy.

It was an annual thing so I guess that was it till next year. I saw it posted on Mash's IG but I do see them post other races from time to tim. I think all you had to do for this one was pay $10 to race. Some people took it serious and others just wanted to ride but I think the winner got $500. It seemed like just a cool communal thing and sort of just reminded me of the SF skateboard community. I wish I more time to shoot but shooting bike stuff is really hard cause once they pass you, you'll have a hard time getting in front of them to get other shots.

The photographers shooting the Tour De France are getting some epic stuff. Especially the last stage.

Technically yeah, but it doesn’t matter that much - something on the threads to prevent moisture ingress and corrosion is all you need. For non-moving parts like a seat post or the outside of a BB anti-seize is the right stuff - but grease would be fine.

Thanks for the input y'all. I should get Anti-seize anyway to just have at my home shop. Wouldn't hurt to use the right tool/product for the right job. Just been using grease because its what I had.

bike is finally done, except a saddle (threw on an old saddle just to take it for a ride)

not really feeling it too much tbh

mainly because i found out these wheelset is tubular which if i puncture sucks, gunna look for a tubular wheelset soon.

but the bike is soooooooooo light, its kinda fun to ride, gunna take it hopefully for a longer ride soon.

it was a good learning experience, next bike will be a full suspension that im buying new from the factory, i kinda spent alot to put this together. If i knew i would spend this much I would have probably purchased like a nukeproof reactor or something

what i would do differently if building one again, is to make sure the rear is a thru axle and not a quick release.

Going to be a bit difficult to find a bike online as most wont ship unless nearby, but some options could be giant escape 3, Giant roam, specialized sirrus 1.0, cannonade quick 5, 6 or cx 5/6 (I think). Some of the bikes I mentioned have a front suspension which adds some cushion to the ride (some can lockout), but also make it a heavier, if that matter or not. You can also use the site 99spokes.com to narrow down to a certain bike, year, price range etc.

giant and specialized's website can show you which shops have the bike if youre nearby (call beforehand of course to make sure).

Since we are still in the covid market (some pre-orders wont come in till next spring) the used market is still decent if you can find a decent deal.

That's not bad at all for that kinda bike, it's all relative. The company i got my track bike from sells it complete for about $2.7k.
