The Combat Jack Show Thread

Regarding the bonus, it seemed like Joe thought they clearly hit the benchmarks to receive the bonus but Spotify reinterpreted the language and said nah you didnt. Joe wasnt saying they should get a bonus just because they overachieved.

I went back and listened, he said Ian told him to “honor the contract” and then he said something about showing these people you’re professional no matter what your “personal grievances” may be

If they hit benchmarks that are clearly spelled out in the contract and Spotify didn’t pay up then thats not a personal grievance, that’s Spotify not honoring the contract and it’s time to get the lawyers involved

Unless, they got finessed with trickery at the conception of the contract and it really wasn’t that clear

edit: then again Joe said his team designed the contract so who knows

Also on Charlamagne constantly calling Joe self sabotaging.... I see why he says that because of the things that he values. Charlamagne seems to like the structure, he wants to have plugs with the highups at I Heart, He wants relationships with Viacom, he wants the invites to CNN, the sit downs with Gayle King etc etc..

For the game he's playing acting like Joe would 100% axe all of that **** out. Thing is Joe doesn't seem to want to work in a "system" and play that game. It's just two different perspectives at going about business. Some ****** shine in a system, others feel constrained by it.

If Complex were willing and able to give Joe equity he would be right over in that system still tho

Same with Spotify, if they gave him what he wanted there would be no system convo.

Which is why at the end he made sure to mention he not closing the door on future business, he just not pleased with the deal currently on the table.

Giving him what he wants would probably result in giving him much more creative control & information on his brand....... which would be a change in the system  .

Seems like the people in position at Spotify have continuously given them their *** to kiss. OFFERING someone a gift, and then lowballing them on the cost of the gift is :emoji_sweat_smile:. Imagine knowing you brought a company 8-9 figures, watching them spend billions & then telling you here as a token of appreciation we'll get you some used Rolexes.

But Joe is self sabotaging for not wanting that same company to own & control all of his business. He's been in this situation as a rapper before & i'm glad he learned from it. Clear as day that Company doesn't value him at all.

Why does he need to sign to anyone? He has a big fanbase, the equipment and everything. He should be able to do it on his own but I don't know.
Owning a network requires a lot of continuous amount work & money. Saying "go do it yourself" sounds good, but it's deeper than that especially w/ the amount of viewers he amasses w/ his show. It's literally company, & like what does Joe know about coding?

Anyway, Idk if u do or not, but u should watch Silicon Valley. It does all good explaining how apps & the investment behind them works.

I mean Joe has done the podcast on his own before, he does the pull up, & other side ventures... it's not like he doesn't know how to do it. But most people don't become rich leveraging their own money... he also seems like he's trying to secure money for the entire crew as a whole upfront.

No reason he shouldn't be looking for a partnership given how valuable his content is.

Cats gotta realize how much money is needed when you are starting things at this magnitude as an independent & plan on fighting for space with Billion dollar companies.

Yeah at a corporate job the big dogs have their bonuses, milestones and stock options negotiated upfront. Ian should have gotten better.

Well Joe just caused a a bunch of publicity on mainstream sites(Variety, The Verge...) over his decision to leave Spotify.

I'm sure it's to spark calls and get a bidding war or ideas started.

I never wanna de-value the product of another black man. Especially Budden, but how much is the Pull up really worth?

I know Joe is gunning for another one of the "talking heads" positions and thats dope but is the Pull Up really that popular?
If he said he was getting more money from the pull up than his podcast, then it’s worth something

"It was our desire to keep Joe Budden on Spotify. As Joe referenced on his show, we made him a considerable offer -- one that was significantly larger and many times the value of the existing agreement and reflective of the current market and size of his audience. Unfortunately, we could not come to terms and we respect his wishes to find a new home for his show," communicated a Spotify spokesperson with us.
