Paying for pods is like paying for porn. I don't see how dudes do it, it's too much free stuff.

It was interesting hearing Rae and Ghost talk about Triumph and Hot 97. As dope as it is, it wasn't radio friendly. It had no hook and it's like seven minutes long. That's two songs on the radio. That's taking another song out of rotation.

It was interesting.

Especially the drug dealer aspect and how that took away one money source. Because Bad Boy, Rocafella and Murder Inc were formed from questionable sources.

I think New York is different in the way it's set up. You naturally hate. Oh you're trying to be a rapper? So are 50 other dudes and everything is neighborhoods, projects, blocks and territorial. You ain't Nas or Jay. Thats your comparison. In the south you heard of people going from nothing to something and you don't have to be Biggie or Big Pun, so it's more supportive.

And New York was set up different, in the south it's set up to go independent and do your own thing. In New York it was set up to hang at radio stations and record labels trying to get someone to listen, because of availability. I think 50 was both good and bad. 50 caused a bunch of labels to sign the next 50, and none of them popped. Most didn't even release albums. So as labels fell and their significance and ability to build and find talent, so did the importance of New York artist. It became easier for them to sign south artist. I think that's why this new generation of New York is a little different, because they don't look at Kay Slay, Clue and Flex as gatekeepers. They don't care about the old rules, they don't know about hoping to see someone walk in the Def Jam building.

There wasn't a strip club scene and clubs were cracked down on and killed. The strip club scene just came about really. And these dudes there aren't going to play new and upcoming artist. So New York wasn't making music for clubs or cars.

That shouldn't really have mattered at hot 97 back then though. They made grittier **** work.

I see Charleston White’s larger overall point

Yeah this is my first time seeing the whole thing but this is in-line with his schtick. He told QueenzFlip that what he does is basically performance art with a message behind it. He even broke character a few times and talked in his normal voice. Very Plies-like.

I don't understand the method behind the madness sometimes tho. He made a brilliant point...but once he saw it went COMPLETELY over Melvin Farmer's head he just reverted to character again with the "I'll die for this" talk. He's intelligent enough to have responded without the ****ery...and he REALLY should have because it was an excellent opportunity to further expound upon his point but alas...

Joe has done such a ****ty job of self promotion that any time the pod does anything to promote people think it's on it's last legs
He’s definitely done a terrible job with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t have a marketing team.

I think they want it to be, so they can say I told you so from Charlamagne's comments. It's really weird.

They don't.

Ppl just run **** by Joe if they have an idea. It's mostly Joe coming up with ****. Then they make Sayvon and Screenman post it.
