The Graphic Design Thread UPDATE: 1st post filled with info. 2nd with NTer's portfolios.

very dope.
i liked that idea. the hand written type over the images design was fitting.
good pics you chose for the 'trust/terror' & 'openess'

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah idk the 20 dollar bill thing just seemed right to me, in gradeschool I couldn't stop doing that :lol I would always be asking my mom if she had a 20 so I could do it. Yeah I'm really into hand making texts right now. I make it with ink and cardboard in my sketchbook and then use it in my designs. I'm gonna develop a font out of it.

We had to design a book for one of my classes. We were supposed to take a question (we did a 100 question exercise in the beginning of the semester with questions that interest us) or a theme from our questions and create images and compile them into an artist book.

A lot of my questions had to do with trust in the government and the media, so this is what i came up with.

Oh, and the pieces were supposed to be quick, no more then 15-20ish mins on each.

Any opinions?

Transparency by Max Flugrath | Make Your Own Book
Nice! It think it would've been better if the color of the type was semi-transparent as well to help emphasize your point.

blog post. I knida like doing these little blurbs when the mood strikes.

np.

and i lowkey like making fonts. from scratch, sketchbook to illustrator. its a pain in the ***, but its better than having to find different fonts for stuff.
my friends got this unique but looks generic handwriting. got her to write A-Z so i can copy it :lol

That's cool, took me a second to figure it out :lol

And about the type, it was designed -the opaqueness was given- with my point in mind, if you think about it :p

Yeah it can be annoying, but it's definitely worth it, makes your work seem more authentic IMO

No matter how many of these "tools" release...the best sites will still be the ones coded from scratch.
You know, I think that eventually hard-coding will become something that's a rarity and more needed on a "maintenance" basis. Personally speaking, i think graphic designers make the best looking and functional websites but we don't know how to code. The closer that gap is to coding the better.

I purchased Macaw, a promising other visual web software that just launched and I'm kinda kicking myself for it. Wished I had waited, till they fixed the issues but meh.

Well primarily, as simple as this sounds....they have no zoom functionality, which is a huge problem IMO.

They have other technical bugs that have been apparent, however they are really, really quick about updating the software. the release notes say what bug fixes they did.

I have actual pics of the book up now:

I usually look at the pictures of a project and then look at the description. That way when i take it in i can really evaluate if the project communicated what it intended to. That being said, I like the hand done organic type over the structural govt pictures. It starts to explore that visual harmony between the two that evokes interest.

Some of the photos subject matter are unfamiliar; so to censor an image thats already slightly ambigious is kinda treacherous.  I don’t think any of the pics you posted weren’t good, it’s just that I think you could’ve found better, more clear ones.

I see that you’re conceptual thinking is limited to the imagery in the book, and I would challenge you to execute it in the ‘form’ as well. Since its about drones, I would run with the concept of automation. How can you make this form (8x11 saddle stich book) automated or more computer-machine-like? Do cpu’s interpret information or code from right to left or top to bottom? If youre book opened from the top, then it would be more drone-like or like a cpu, follow me?
Might be a bad example but you know what I mean.

Good stuff bro.
