I don't think so, he was named starter when Palmer went down a few years ago but looked so bad in practice they replaced him before he got the chance with Ryan Lindley :x

Petty looked TERRIBLE. So it's either throw Hackenberg in the fire and piss off every vet on your team or keep Fitz in there and hope him and B-Marsh can connect on a bunch of TD's the rest of the year and make them look competitive

except that's no longer really happening.. college is getting more and more away from how the game is played in the NFL
not as bad as high school where if you have a solid roster and decent coaches you're going win an overwhelming majority of the time (which typically means the school has money.. or the school is just in a talent reach area).. but it's getting there
the combine is now more important than ever where you cant fall back on the film because of these offenses

I mean I think they basically KNOW Petty sucks so they see no point in really "developing" him. Hackenberg who knows but if they lose against the Colts and at Niners the next two games maybe we'll see him
