Putting culture completely aside (I know that's kind of big a deal), I can definitely see how someone who's not familiar and doesn't have the eye for the more subtle differences in feel and appearances between NYC/PHI/BOS could view them as being a like.
wrong..

and I say this as a foreigner who has studied in the US (multiple parts of florida), studied in multiple parts of England and traveled quite a bit throughout the world
How are you gonna tell me I'm wrong when talking about someone's hypothetical ability to inaccurately PERCEIVE something.

I don't see what your travels has to do with anything.
I've been to all 3 places.. I've seen my fair amount of cities all over the world

they're very very different from each other.. and have very different feels

and as I said above, NYC compares the most with London of all the places I've been
Dawg, that's YOUR perception.

You're familiar with the three cities, thus more capable of forming an authentic perception.

@HNL HI  said he's never been East of Texas.

I've visited Philly once when I was a child. Last visited Boston when I was 14.

My perception of both cities is largely formed by hollywood and the media and other peoples personal anecdotes.

All I said was I can see how someone who doesn't know the cities can wrongly perceive them to be more or less the same, strictly looking at them on the surface. I don't see how that's wrong (it's not).

A lot of movies aren't even filmed where the plot is set. Our perception is based on reality; not movies, not stories, so that's why we're telling you why your perception is wrong.

as I said before I've been to philly once (was in high school, think I was 14 or 15.. went to my buddy's place during thanksgiving) and boston once for a couple days in my early 20s.. not sure what level of familiarity you expect me to have

new York I've been to several times

I didn't spend more than a week at any of those places the times I've been

I don't think he was attacking him just stating his experiences

all I was saying was without being there to experience the nuances they all look like the same place.

You guys are not reading carefully.

We're not talking about MY perception.

From the jump I stated quite literally that those who the hold this hypothetical perception are inaccurate.

At this point I don't even know what the point is you're trying to get across. If your point is that the cities are different to you, that's great. Obviously few people disagree with that.

East just got too many cities for the West to compete with. From Boston down to Miami is just too much for just SoCal and and the Bay to compete with bc after those 2 its down hill for the West.

LA is my 2nd favorite city. SoCal is just amazing.

You're the one talking about nuances all of a sudden and my point is hard to understand

Spent a few days in Philly a couple weeks ago and it definitely has its own identity.

Yea, I had cheesesteak every damb day there.

Too much poverty floating around in the downtown area though. Couldn't even walk through a couple parks cuz of the stench :x.
