The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Seriously, Moreno got the biggest pop out of anyone, even more than the main event. It felt like we were watching some kind of superstar

It was actually a little surreal

I mean think about how close they were to throwing the 125 division away and it's not like many fans were protesting it lol, I know I wasn't. To go from that to where it is now with all the new contenders stacking up... that's just wild to think about

Yeah Francis ain't coming back to the UFC after seeing that interview. Jones fighting for the belt international fight week is the likeliest outcome imo. Youre going to have to have a big fight for the HW belt if you're coming off of Francis. Having Gane or Lewis/BamBam ain't it.

Listening to the MMA Hour now.

According to Tapology, the next UFC even is Feb 5. So Dana may lay low for a bit lol.

He dominated him in the second fight.

I think that's why I asked the question if it's a case of being disinterested or declining.

Gus 1, Reyes and Santos were hungry and game opponents. Did Jon do the appropriate training, game planning? Or is he just getting older, and the accumulation adding up?

Jon lost to Reyes and Santos..
In my opinion I think it was complacency more than anything…he had what 11 or 12 straight title fights?

Reagrdless of that, both them fighters been shells of themselves since they fought jon and don’t look the same.
But who knows, maybe he can prove me wrong.
Thats why I love this game.

So unpredictable.

Santos was actually beating Glover up before Glover just went into full wrestle mode to save the fight. After that he had a decision loss to Rakic and then decision win over Walker

Reyes was tagging Jiri a lot and looked very good imo. Jiri is just that level of elite. Most other LHW's would have went to sleep at the hands of Reyes that night

Yeah Santos had to get both knees repaired took a year off after the jon fight just to rehab……he’s looked ok but he’ll never be the same. Don’t see him fighting for the title ever again.

Reyes just looks like a fighter who’s confidence is shot. His whole thing was confidence going into the Jones fight, he did very well. I still give that fight to Jon. Brutal KO after…yeah I’m a jon homer…but he’s earned my bias.

I think he washes Jiri too.

Ill always go to bat for Jon in the octagon, no one’s touching that run(technically he still going)

I hope this gon be good

Ehh I'm skeptical. He's probably already let them know he's not talking about Francis' contract situation or if he did agree he'll just be like "this guy doesn't want to fight" or "that's what happens when you're under bad management". Dana always finds a way to deflect or will just say "next question, who's actually got a real question".

Fair assessments all around

I think Reyes though was very ready to fight Jiri and showed heart. But man after that fight I just don't know how Reyes recovers

I just want to see Jones back at that dominant form. I haven't seen it in quite some time

Yeah most likely, but still the fact that he's making himself available after loudly not showing up for anything last Saturday is interesting. I'm hoping he answers about his absence on Saturday at the very least

yeah my bias is more wishful thinking than anything…nostalgia got me holding on.

More than anything, jon retiring on top is good for the sport. It pushes the sport forward if he can have that Khabib storybook ending.

Been a long, crazy road for Jon…I just want to see him close the chapter on his own terms and get the roses he deserves.

UFC/MMA needs more happy endings.

It’s pretty sad how 98% of fighters go out/retire.

But exciting on a Saturday night. Gotta hope there's either major social outcry or work stoppage or major anti-trust or litigation.

Doubtful, even if they lose Francis and JJ never fights again the show will go on. As has been said in here previously, for every fighter who is feeling short changed they either won't say anything, can't afford to sit out as they need to get paid something or are afraid of speaking up for fear of losing their job in the UFC. There are also likely several fighters on the cusp of making the UFC who will take an initial low salary and won't realize their worth until much later down the line.

I mean it's sad that a guy like Rashad Evans is likely returning to fighting as his broadcast career doesn't seem to have panned out (he's not on ESPN or any major outlet now right?) and he needs the money.

The fight game. I mean...Mike Tyson was buzzing not long ago to fight again.

When it's all you know, and there aren't any other options. I don't blame a Floyd who can easily make a huge bag. But not everyone else is as savvy.
