Outside of the JJ-Aspinall fight which appears destined to not happen this is probably the fight to make. Or Volkov rematch if he beats Gane.

Gane wasn’t the champ lol. He lost to a hobbled Francis.
I’ll give him credit though. He gave Francis fits on the feet with his distance management and striking from the outside. Just wasn’t ready for Eric Nicksick exploiting the hole in Ferdinand’s camp.
I agree with ya. Won’t lie. Won’t make me excited for “big” heavyweight fights.

I don't think anyone is arguing he shouldn't have fought Gane at the time with Francis' departure. It's that he's clearly "ducking" the guy who has claim to be the real HW champ. Now he's fighting an old washed HW and calling his shot at a LHW who in all likelihood wont be able to stop his takedowns.

Speaking of the current dialogue, just started listening to today's Craic pod. Really enjoy listening to Petesy with Chuck and having Shaheen is a nice bonus.

We respect Jon and everything he’s done in his career, despite all of the antics.
Even Dana can’t ignore Tom anymore lol. He knows the kid is the heir apparent to the baddest man on the planet title.
And no one really has interest in the MSG main event. We’ll watch it dubiously.

If Tom had a legit resume, had legit names under his belt Jon would fight him and take that juice
But this dood's resume is thin AF (what's his biggest win?) he JUST GETTING STARTED in MMA so the timing just ain't there for them to match up.
Alex on the other hand has a crazy resume and is currently the hottest/most respect fighter on the roster right now

Let’s be real. Say the quiet part out loud. Heavyweight does not have huge depth or big names.
Francis and Stipe are the last ones with a rub from the previous HW big names eg Werdum, Cain, Overeem, JDS, etc.
Blaydes, Pavlovich, Volkov, Gane, etc don’t have that resume.
It’s why Tom tried to insert himself to get the rub. Otherwise he’s cleaned out the division. Besides Gane, he’s beaten everyone in the top 10. He is the best HW in UFC. Francis is the lineal champion who has is trapped in PFellator.
