THE OFFICIAL 2024 - 2025 DALLAS COWBOYS SEASON THREAD || 3-6 Next Game 11/18 vs. Texans Monday Night Football

I don't get it. We release all these guys and don't resign Hatcher. Hatcher and Donald would be tremendous. Who cares about age? Htcher has low mileage. Him x Arnold = Pat and Kevin Williams

Romo restructured today. Just saved 10 mill. Only 1 mill over the cap. Still have the option of cutting Parnell and Durant and then we'd be under. Plus, we still make Miles a June 1st cut, and either Ware takes a pay cut or gets released and you are looking at quite a bit of money under the cap. This is why I used to snicker when people on this forum kept saying "Cowboys in cap hell" bla bla bla. Only bad thing about that is next year if Romo were to unexpectedly retire, we are looking at eating over 40 mill in dead money.

In regards to Hatcher, unless his contract is voidable after 2 years then I agree with not bringing him back. Tired of paying aging vets.

I'd take Spencer back for the vet minimum only. He's good in run support.

At least all the "Johnny Football to Dallas" bull can stop now.

Will be under the cap once Costa is released. Can create 13 million more in cap space if Miles and Ware are released.

It'd probably help if I checked this page first and see that you already posted what I just wrote a few seconds ago :lol

Amp spencer ain't worth it. Look at hatches impact and #'s since he's been a full-time starter. And we drafted him. He outplayed Spears for years. Canty did too. I hate we kept marcu for so long and let Canty walk. Spencer started for years opposite DWare and put up dud stats. He just turned 30 y/o. Two years younger than Hatch..

And again, why, and for who are we making cap space for, other than needing to resign Dez and Tyronn when the time comes?

We could've got Laron Landry for a bargain last year. I would love the thought if Jaruis Byrd but, we won't pursue him, per usual.

Lol they are in cap hell they keep pushing dead money on to next year

Look at all the moves they gotta make to make just LOW level FA signings

Our cap situation is a mess call a spade a spade bro

If he were to actually retire and not just get hurt/cut the money is dropped from the cap I believe

I dunno. I feel like cap hell would mean we aren't able to sign the guys we intend on keeping (Dez, Bailey, Tyron). We generally aren't big players in FA anyway and in all honesty, that forumla isn't very conducive to winning. What is conducive is having a good draft and having solid depth. That alone can keep your cap space relatively low. But the Cowboys don't do that. T.O. was probably the best FA we ever signed and we still didn't get a chip with him.

I took a quick glance, and correct me if I'm wrong, but can't we get 17 mill under the cap by releasing Orton along with Miles?

we can't even afford to sign a big name in free agency, im not saying splurge like Miami did, but we cant even do what Seattle did or another team does and sign one big player at a key position of need, we cant do that ever and have to rely on the draft and low level signings to fill out the team

you build through the draft, but adding a key piece in free agency say at S or G maybe DE or DT would be a game changer and we cant even do that

^ ^ I hear you.

My issue is that even when we have gone for big names in FA, they don't tend to pan out for us. Brian Waters helped last year but Bernadeau did very well when he went down. The only FA in recent memory that made an immediate impact was Eldorado. I guess the jury is still out on Brandon Carr, but we spent big money in FA for him and he hasn't lived up to thar 50 mill.

personally I would like Byrd because I think he is the rangy ballhawk FS we've been desperate for

I agree. But Jerry and Co would never invest large sums of money at FS. It's not in his DNA.

WR maybe... :lol

I agree with MPire. No one is saying the Cowboys have a good cap situation, but by no means is it as bad as people claim. 3 restructures and they're under the cap. Cut two guys who probably deserve to be cut and they're 14 million under the cap.

You can say that all they're doing is pushing money into the future, but the cap will be significantly higher each of the next few years. And even if it wasn't, the Cowboys have shown the ability to be able to work around the cap. BTB did an article on this exact subject

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2014...2011-2017-salary-cap-health-manifesto-part-ii

People were saying the same thing thing last year about the cap (and the year before that.... and the year before that) yet the Cowboys were able to sign Romo and Lee to huge contracts. This year, they'll sign Dez and Tyron to big contracts.

Until the Cowboys have to start cutting players, and are unable to sign their guys, I don't know how anyone can say they are in salary cap hell.

And I don't know about yall, but I don't want the Cowboys looking for long-term answers in free agency anyways

LOL true

as for the cap, I used to write for BTB on the front page and I love their articles I still visit there daily but I disagree with the cap stuff, the cap is a problem but that is just my opinion

yeah they always free up money to sign one of their own guys but they will never have money to be a player in free agency, you don't gotta ball out like Miami, but you do need to make some acquistions in FA

they had to make some pretty heavy moves just to sign Will Allen and Justin Durant, that is a cap issue

Yeah I agree with that 100%.

I'm just saying that the Cowboys are not in salary cap hell. The cap situation is by no means good, but if you'd listen to the media and guys in the NFL thread, you'd think the Cowboys had to cut 10 guys and weren't able to sign their draft picks because of cap.

And again, I don't trust Jerry Jones with money to spend in free agency anyways :lol :{

I agree with you there, its overblown by the media and outsiders

Costa let go and Bernadeau renegotiated, so officially under cap (~2mil). Ware and Miles decisions most likely up next.

Probably no rush to do this as they will be post June 1st cuts if they are in fact let go
